Putting how crap this decision is aside, it does mean that we will always hold the record for playing the most games to win the cup. We played 12 games to lift the trophy in 1912 which has never been bettered, though Fulham came close in the Seventies.

Just cancelled my sports package as it goes. Dodgy stick all the way. Won’t make a blind bit of difference but I’ll feel a bit better about myself.

Tranmere saying the EFL wasn't consulted, quite a few EFL delegates on the FA board too including the EFL chairman Rick Parry

We’ll hear nothing from Oakwell, probably shitting themselves at the looming FA charges

    Hi Reds Fan

Barnsley Football Club Supporters’ Trust was bitterly disappointed with yesterday’s announcement that FA Cup replays will be scrapped from the first round onwards.

We find this decision to be disrespectful to the history of the FA Cup and what it means to football clubs and supporters throughout the football pyramid, and would urge the FA, the Premier League, and all relevant parties to reverse the decision for the greater good of the game.

This isn’t just about what it means to Barnsley Football Club, but the game of football as a whole and the memories, experiences and opportunities the magic of the FA Cup delivers every single year. Our own supporters will remember our 4th round replay at White Hart Lane against Enfield, in front of 35,000 fans in 1981, or Scott Jones going down in history with his two goals in our 3-2 replay win over Manchester United at Oakwell in 1998 – something we wouldn’t experience today because we’ve already lost replays from the 5th round onwards.

Lincoln City’s 2017 run to the Quarter-Finals benefitted from replays. In 1972, Hereford beat Newcastle 2-1 in a replay to go down in English history as the lowest-ranked non-league side to beat top-flight opposition. Non-league Blyth Spartans hosted a fifth-round replay against Wrexham at St. James Park in 1978, in front of over 40,000 supporters, after a run from the first-qualifying round.

This proves the magic of the FA Cup is real, but we lose more and more of that magic every year through decisions made by the few, to the detriment of our beloved game. It shouldn’t be this way.

We’re continuing to speak with Barnsley FC, the EFL, the FSA, local MPs and fellow Supporters’ Trusts, to ensure the unanimous voice of the supporter, and the football pyramid as a whole, is heard.

    Regards

    BFCST

Every EFL and and all the lower leagues clubs need to stand firm on this issue and boycott the FA Cup.

Shocking that it has come to such a point but if we tolerate this then your children will be next and football will eat itself.

    Enough is enough.

All these letters saying ‘we arent happy’ do very little in the shene of things. Its good to raise it but weak in action.

The excuse that players are playing too much football at the highest level is also weak. Prem clubs have large enough squads to cope. In addition they are quick to take up closed season tours days after or before season to play exhibition games. But there are things that can help. Bring any club playing in europe in a round later. Play games in league without this excessive 9-10-12 mins added time. Get rid of extra time in any cup.

fans are moaning about the loss of the magic but do fans really turn out in numbers for the cup other than big games?

but lets face it the real topic here is that the EFL teams were refused the additional money for them to agree this. If they now give compensation financially the whoo haaa will quickly settle.

so now what. The EFL need to show their teeth. Withdraw from the cup and start a new comp in partnership with the scottish leagues.

A huge well done to BFC on this one for leading from the front and starting our FA Cup boycott in 2023.

    Excellent work all involved.

Inclined to agree. They may stand up and take notice if £ is affected e.g. via sponsors.
Emirates is not an organisation that the average fan can impact necessarily. However, if everyone simply didn’t watch the televised FA Cup final it would perhaps make the wider sponsors ask questions.
I’d be quite happy not watching it.

Not fully watched one for several years. 20 minutes here, a second half there, tune in for a pen shoot out sort of viewing.

Fans of lower league sides need to stop watching televised Premier League matches, i.e. cancelling subscriptions.

You know what's coming, from 24/25 teams qualifying for European Competitions to enter at the 4th Round stage.

I'm taking the Greed League completely off my radar. I won't watch it on tv and I've unfollowed it on my Fotmob app, along with all club European comps. I won't read or click on any media articles associated with it.
A tiny gesture but at least I know I won't be feeding its greed or arrogance any more.
