Luckily our dog is completely indifferent to fireworks. She's a rescue who is scared of most things and has to meet a new person several times before letting them near her. However, for some reason fireworks don't bother her. In terms of what helps, my mate swears by the classical FM programme mentioned on the other thread. Know a few folk who have had success with thundershirts too, but we've found them relatively useless when trying to address other anxieties.
Whilst over the years Ive always enjoyed seeing a good fire work display ...I'm none too keen on the ones that produce the very loud explosive bangs....tonight they seem to be louder than ever ....which at the best of time make my lad jump out of his skin every 2minutes due to him having limited sight and who is registered blind....couple that with, we are baby sitting both the neighbours dog and 2 of the grand kids who are staying the night ....both at one point were stood in the garden watching all the fire works going off happy as Larry until one very extra large explosive bang ...which inturn saw one of them scream out in terror and come running into the house screaming very loudly not before slipping on the decking and almost nose diving in to the patio doors ...thankfully she's only grazed her knee....it could have been much much worse...she's now clung on to her nannan shaking like a leaf in the wind.... We were going to a fireworks party tomorrow night to celebrate our daughters 25th birthday minus our 33 year old son for obvious reasons but now our grand daughter is pleading with us not to go as she's frightened stiff....which in one sense is ironic as its her mums birthday.....lol The dog on the other hand appears to be enjoying the fire works she hasnt basically moved from the patio doors from the moment the neighbours dropped her off and doesn't seem fazed by any of it she's even whined to go out a couple of times whereby she's gone out and promptly sat down and looked up at the sky watching what's going off lol
I live somewhere remote enough that the bangs are few and far between. Every single one so far has made me jump out of my skin. Dog is sparko.
I’ve always liked fireworks but they get louder every year so affecting more animals, first time with this dog, he doesn’t exactly seem scared just barks at every bang to ‘see it off’
