Red Bull are hinting that they believe Mercedes are breaking the rules. Mercedes simply day Hamilton has a new engine and different tracks lead to different performance returns.
Last week was rather unique with the extreme altitude of the track in Mexico.

Mexico was raced at altitude, much warmer conditions and more about aero rather than high speed. Which all better suit the Red Bull package.

Merc have straight line speed, so today and the next three races 'should' suit them, but track temp probably not.

Should make for an interesting battle, but I think Max has enough in the bag to edge it.

Didn't they finish that season on the same points?

MV will not finish in at least 1 of the 3 races due to driving like he did today when trying to take LH out the big question is will LH be involved and taken out too, if he manages to avoid getting caught up in MVs "incidents" he'll be world champion for the 8th time and undisputed GOAT.

Love Alonso don't get me wrong but he hasn't exactly dominated Alpine over Ocon this season. Ocon has won a GP this year and finished ahead of Alonso today too.

Id have thought so and she would get my vote this year even if Lewis does win the title

Was avoiding spoilers, waiting for ch4 highlights. That’s one of Lewis’ best ever drives.

Should be, Mr YT. She's 1/16 (not a working man's price!) and would be a very deserving recipient. But if Lewis turns this title race around he goes past Schumi and becomes the undisputed GOAT. Raducanu is the likelier winner, but Sir Lewis surely has a better than 40/1 (2.5%) chance?

Surely to win sports personality of the year you'd need to play a sport and have, you know, a personality? ;)

Certainly has, if he donates £3m to a certain fund.

Andy Murray has won it 3 times in the last 10 years :)

Its hard to define personality though - I dont know quite why they use personality as its really an aware for the sportsman or woman that has impressed the most in the previous year. If it was all down to personality someone like Chris Kamara would be winning it

Between the ladies of middle England & middle aged perverts, she can’t really fail, Shirley..?
If Lewis wins the title from here, he’ll deserve any two bob accolades they throw at him.
The little tennis lass will have her chance. She’s a marketing man’s wet dream..

Do any of us think there is anything suspicious about the speed gain? Is it just Red Bull's desperation, or is there something fishy going on?

Just Christian Horner moaning as per.

Lewis has a brand new ICE so was bound to have some additional pace, plus he was faster in sector 3 which was understandable given they have better straight line speed. Max was faster in the other sectors.

I love McLaren but I'd love Mercedes to get one over Horner yet again.

I think their speed advantage was exaggerated by the fact that the two DRS zones were so close to each other.

Seen footage from yesterday of Lewis pulling his steering wheel back on exiting the corners like the mercs did last year with the DAS that pulled the wheels in to generate more straight line speed but that's illegal this year. The suspicion is that pulling the wheel back is used to flatten the lower portion of the rear wing creating a bigger gap and therefore more top speed. Would explain how the rear wing came to have a bigger gap in it than it should have in qualifying as the excuse that it sustained damage didn't really make any sense as there was never any kind of collision
