I don't disagree with any of that, and the fisheries policy is ridiculous. But lets be fair, nations outside of the EU overfish too, not just discards, and whats to stop us overfishing again in future as a nation? It's not as simple as exit EU and everything resolves to common sense.

I think the world would be much better if sustainability was at its heart. And if we were ever truly going to approach our futures in such a way, mankind would face some very serious challenges and choices, including regulating itself, not just in terms of movement and behaviours, but in terms of replication and our voracious appetite to consume and destroy, even when there is no need to.

Are there tariffs on EU/Canada imports/exports?

Some - but now only 2% of Tariff Codes have duties.

I suspect these 2% are agricultural / food products which would damage the French farmers.

I wouldn't go that far.. Simply because at heart I am probably more in the centre ground than anything. I do think we have allowed the world to move far too much towards capitalistic greed, but a constant communist state wouldn't be my personal preference.. At the end of the day I'm ok with having ultra rich people but not at the total expense of creating poverty with having such a narrow focus of our country and it's wealth. Make the best of what we have before thinking of trying to grow. But most of all, I get great pleasure from seeing people happy, pleasure from having close family and friends looking out for one another.

PS.. One of my left wing socialist friends thinks I am a Tory.. Sometimes true, many times false. I tend at the moment to vote for maybe the best of a bad bunch lol... I'd love to get involved in politics, thought of initially standing in the local council elections actually this time but not done enough preparation, I think the deadline to declare is tomorrow so maybe next time. As an independent though..

I’d agree with you on some of that. Unfortunately the Govt will take the opposite path and look for cheap trade deals and lowered standards not self sufficiency. They stated yesterday that they expect 25% of farms to go bust and won’t intervene.
