Will be at the end of this week. I was on a years supply at a school in Huddersfield, but my contract is being cut short and ends on Friday. Spoke to my agency yesterday and they're just figuring it all out.
As of Monday I will be, most have already been but I'm currently on annual leave and so not technically due back until Monday when I'm told I've to go in to sign some paperwork to become forlough. They are keeping on skeleton teams across each department to keep key machines and lines running as these feed important infastructors like hospitals, sewage etc but the vast majority will be forlough
Just received an email from my accountant informing me that as the sole PAYE employee of my limited company I would be within my rights to furlough myself and have 80% of my salary paid by the government. As I've not actually done any chargeable work for 6 years now and I worked exclusively from home for the 7 years before that, I think the technical term for this would be "taking the piss".
We are American owned (ideal industries ) To be fair I’ve heard a few who’s had their wages topped up by their employer
You could claim for the 80% of the nothing you earn. You'll get four fifths of a cheque made out for £0.00
I still receive a salary that I pay out of retained profit so this would indeed be free money, if I had no scruples whatsoever.
Wife furloughed from next week but I’m ok for now, we’ll manage with a bit of belt tightening. Hopefully this won’t be for too long and we’ll all be back to normal in a couple of months time. The real test will come when firms return to work having re evaluated their working methods and staffing levels. I fear we’ll see some fairly scathing cuts in the near future. Hope I’m wrong.
We have just had the meeting and they are looking for volunteers to go on furlough. Even though we are in the frozen and chilled distribution business volumes have dropped dramatically in the last 2 weeks so looking at cutting a few people back. Warehouse, drivers, customer services looking to go on furlough for 3 weeks from Monday with it possibly being extended to 6 weeks. Hoping to get chosen as my wife has an exceptionally low immune system due to the medication she is on, it would be tight but with the mortgage holiday available we would be fine.
As I sell beer to pubs I’ve been furloughed since middle of last week. Been treat well by my employer and very much wish I was back working, just hope this doesn’t go on for months (I fear it will however).
The company I work for over here has just "Released" 7000 including my best friend. My friend told me he was let go for a period up to the end of April but may be extended. He won't get any pay, he has to claim unemployment that could take weeks to be paid. The company will pay full medical insurance. I spoke to my manager last night to see if I could be released for 2 weeks and my friend for 2 weeks as my friend has a young family and needs the money, my manger said no.
There are rumours, unconfirmed, that the government is expecting departments and suppliers to plan for the lockdown lasting six months. Apparently the last two weeks has seen Universal Credit applications increase by 950,000.
We are still open as an Hotel tekkin in Key workers, just had stock and agreed to go on caretakers wages, but we will still remain open as I feel the Hotel is rqd, 11 in this week, 11 in last week, no bookings so far for next week, c wot happens. The thing is we could go home an sit ararnd or stay ere do summat and get paid.
We’ve just had our meeting, those staff self isolating for 12 weeks as directed by the NHS to be furloughed immediately. Doesn't sit well with any of us, it’s very telling how a multinational that preaches employee health safety and welfare when times are good are happy to disadvantage the weakest amongst us. It stinks.
