I can see the irony in that. I used to drive the autobahns regularly when living in Rheindahlen and, doing between 80 and 90 mph, I would often feel like I was standing still as groups of Mercs/BMWs etc zoomed past in close formation

When there's a speed limit, you stick to it. Although I recently got caught so I can't say much haha.

Quite often driving to the football I'll be sat there doing 120/130mph and a BMW or Audi will go past in an absolute blur!

Only time I got caught was just outside a Bavarian village where I had committed the heinous crime of doing about 25mph when I should have been doing 20 (or somewhere around that). The policeman obviously spotted the GB plates and said in his broken English that I had been caught by a speed gun and if I paid him 20 marks it would be alles klar. No ticket, no receipt. Nice little earner for Deutsche PC Plod!

No that's normal autobahn form, for those driving the right cars. I used to get all giddy when the needle went over a hundred

Unfortunately I can't afford a car to keep up with the rest of them!

Wouldn't be surprised if that's the same on M1 near J40. It flashes every day I go past. (not because of me I hasten to add) .

You've also got to have a car that looks like it can keep up. I used to have a Pug 407 Coupe - (the version with the 3 litre V6 engine) and whilst on the A8 came up behind a BMW that was only doing 110mph and it refused to move over and let me past. A 911 came up behind me, I let it past and the BMW driver saw the Porsche and pulled in. As I tried to follow the Porsche past he pulled back out again forcing me to brake. Obviously didn't want to be overtaken by a Peugeot!!

As I am not into playing silly buggers at that speed I just sat behind him ( in the inside lane where appropriate - fortunately we were just coming up to the A5 junctions and there was a speed limit which he ignored and then I turned off onto the A5 and never saw him again

PS it always feels wrong to go past a police car at over 100 even though you arent breaking any laws

Takes me back to when I was a pro-muso and we used to do the army bases like Padeborn, Bielefeld, Rheindalen, Hameln, Hamburg etc. we had a Merc 508D loaded up with instruments, PA ,lights, 5 band and crew etc (plus several crates of Grolsch on the return journey :) ) Merc was flat out at about 65mph loaded. Used to pull out to overtake something moving even slower on a two lane autobahn when something like a small dot was visible in the door mirror half a mile back. By the time you were halfway past it had changed to a BMW or Audi with the nose down braking and flashing headlights. Differential between 65 mph and 140 mph is a bit like pulling out from a junction in front of a car doing over 70 mph I suppose. Was always a bit of a 'wing and a prayer' moment when you made the decision to overtake. Happy days!

Living life in the... err..... fast lane !!

Too cold in Russia for Speedos.
They have to come over here with their lycra habits & fascist behaviour.
At least the Germans have good beer & techno.
