One of my neighbours was taken to hospital last night with suspected COVID-19. He was put on one of these Dyson ventilators as a trial and apparently he is picking up nicely

You’re really prepared to ignore the fact we didn’t accept the EU’s help and instead gave contracts to 2 companies that are large donors to the Tory party on the grounds of ideology.

you’re happy people will die because these machines are a long way from delivery whilst those lives could have been saved.

    congratulations.

It's not just a case of attaching a tube to someone and turning it on, training is required. Unfortunately we don't have enough trained staff to use them because, we'll, you know why. From a Times article.

"Modern intensive care ventilators are highly complex and require specialist training. These - together with the expert staff who can manage them and the complex array of medication and other organ support that may be required - should be reserved for the sickest patients. "

Nine days ago the Tory government was contacted by the ventilator manufacturer Direct Access with an offer to upscale their existing production to provide 5,000 new ventilators - the company have heard nothing since.

MEC Medical, which is an existing manufacturer of ventilator parts, also contacted the government about upscaling production - the company have heard nothing from the government.

The saddest part of which is - this should have been the govt contacting them a month ago.

government planning included temporary morgues and hospitals before they started on testing people entering the country, ordering ventilators or telling us to stay home.

UK to 'consider' EU ventilator scheme after all

The UK government was being hit with criticism earlier for not joining a EU scheme to get ventilators to the health providers that need them.

But it seems like it was just a case of the invite being lost in the mail.

The prime minister's spokesman said this morning that the UK was "making it's own efforts" to source more ventilators.

But this statement has now been updated to say: “Owing to an initial communication problem, the UK did not receive an invitation in time to join in four joint procurements in response to the coronavirus pandemic."

The spokesman says the European Commission has confirmed the UK is eligible to take part in any further procurements though during the so-called transition period after Brexit.

So, he adds: "We will consider participating in future procurement schemes on the basis of public health requirements at the time."[/QUOTE]

They "lost" the invitation, but Matt Hancock was aware of it on Question Time last week when asked about it.
