Was just gonna post the same thing. Clear strategy being stuck to, signing young talent, and not developing other team’s players. Signing players to strengthen in areas we require and replacing the ones sold on. I agree the squad overall is better now, and given the departures that is a decent achievement. (It also confirms or at least strongly implies that Schmidt is the last signing. Of a player that is...)
I do buy all that and there's a huge feeling of positivity around the club, I have full confidence in our buying ability only misgiving I have is even tho we are sticking them on 4/5 yr contracts is that going to mean we'll hold out for top dollar when the inevitable happens in 18 months time. KM's 3m sale hasn't filled me with confidence.
Time will tell. The flip side of 4 and 5 year contracts is the cost to get rid of it goes wrong. My biggest concern is they’ve not delivered what the manager specifically asked for. I’m not sure that will aid discussions to extend his contract
Reading between the lines he is letting his feelings known about a section of our fans and our outgoing players and I like it.
To use his own vernacular “Way to go!” Horrible term but he deserves all the credit. I can’t see our super chump being satisfied however
Well I for one, take it back. Excellent business and I totally agree with permanent signings and no loans. I hated them, we had our team dismantled every year and got nothing for it. At least we get a bit of folding now! Well done Mr Conway and all involved. We will not bring in expensive players anymore, so the likes of Sammy the snake etc can stay at the sty. We only go for up and coming players and hope they develop with our coaches. Good stuff!
superb stuff!! we are in good hands. Patrick's legacy is living on with these guys. credit to our board and management team for going about their business in a professional manner. I'm loving the fact that this new young group have committed their 4/5 year futures to us. it might work, it might not. but at least we have a plan and a strategy and we are sticking to it. there is no better club on this planet. very very pleased. class me as a happy clapper please!
I think overall we have done well. There are positions I'm still worried about, especially defensively. If DS is happy, I'm happy. Is going to be an interesting season.
It's a bit self congratulatory and we should judge just how successful this transfer window is at the end of the season. I seem to remember the summer of '96 proved to be pretty damn fine, and I'm not sure anyone should dismiss that. Having said all that, his words are infectious, and it's difficult not to get excited and a bit carried away after the performance last weekend. We were very, very good and my thoughts this week certainly haven't been worries about relegation, they've been much grander than that.
OMG! You know what? Mr Conway actually cares about this project. I don't mean that disrespectfully either - it's just that you wondered what such rich and powerful people could possibly want with our little club. Well if anyone still doubts their motives, by God, it's going to be a terrific ride! COYR!
Do you know what their motives are yet? Because I still don’t. There’s a hint of strategy for football, but no long term shared objective. But what are the owners objectives? Particularly as they seem to have been driven out of Nice after a frightening loan at a huge lending rate was flushed into the open by the guy who resigned prior to gg getting the job It’s not a negative view I have... there is an opaque layer though, including the investment vehicle being overseas too. I know a lot of vc’s and turnaround practitioners. We were a distressed purchase. Absolute dreamland for a VC buyer.
Time will tell but no one can say that the players brought in are better than davies lindsey pinnock and moore. Thats just utter garbage. Down the line a few could be sold for a nice tidy profit to carry on the PC model perfectly but you cant claim that after one good game. Im sure the club men will be lapping it all in tho....
