My favourite rhyming couplet She's got a new spell Billy Bragg "One minute she says she's gone to get the cat in The next thing I know she's mumbling in Latin" My favourite lines dripping with cool Stone Roses What the world is waiting for "Anytime you want it then it's there All you gotta do is stop it On the corner and ask Say hey you don't live today Stop the world Stop the world I'm getting off" My favourite rhyming couplet dripping with cool Sweet Jane Lou Reed "Standin' on the corner suitcase in my hand Jack is in his corset, Jane is in her vest and me I'm in a rock 'n' roll band" And my favourite lyrics ever, tattooed to my back Subterranean Moseley Blues Pete Green "I said, you blame it on the immigrants you blame it on the poor, blame anyone who's not the same as you You forgot about the bankers yeah, the greedy fk*cing w4nkers cos it's them who made this mess we're living through So be careful what you wish for and remember what they did, remember how they tore this land in two They might tell you different stories but they're still the same old Tories and they'll always put the bankers before you So give me fourth division football, indiepop and proper pubs Radio 4 on in the kitchen when it's cold outside You can keep what's superficial, you can give me David Mitchell give me anything that's heartfelt, real and kind"
Watch me wallabies feed, mate Watch me wallabies feed They're a dangerous breed, mate So watch me wallabies feed Altogether now!
I did this about 97. Was home with Mam & dad. Summer, no football. Bobbed by Birmingham for a day & tracked 5/6 songs for Kusworth. At Terry Miles home studio (Felt,Denim etc.) Kus told me to play like Mick Taylor on this one, so I did. I had the cd for 2 years & finally played it. Then the line about Savage hit me. Dave’s dog. Ran to heaven.
But you've been cold to me so long I'm crying icicles instead of tears From 2 out 3 ain't bad by Meat Load
I know he’s said some dodgy **** over that last few years but he’s still wrote some of my favourite lyrics so it’d have to be something written by him or Ian Brown, who has recently turned into an anti vaxxing no mask wearing COVID denier!
Aw Aw, sweet, sweet Jane. 1993, Town & Country Club, Kentish Town. Not the first, nor the last time, I wept in front of a band. Mo stepped from behind her drums & sang I’m sticking With You. Everyone in the hall sang it with her, & clapped to the beat. There was a quiet hiss & boo when Lou tried to get control of the song. I have the Paris concert dvd. But wished they filmed London. the adoration was extraordinary. never seen anything like that since. Maybe when the Replacements came to town in 2015. I was whooping like a teenager girl..
Those who wish to be, must put aside the alienation get on with the fascination, the real relation, the underlying dream.
More Billy Bragg..... "There is no real substitute For a ball struck squarely and firmly And you're the kind of girl who wants to Open up the bottle of pop too early in the journey Our love went flat just like that" A Lover Sings
I came here to post... They smelt of pubs, and wormwood scrubs And too many right wing meetings My life swam around me It took a look and drowned me in its own existence The smell of brown leather It blended in with the weather
We live in Orwellian times It feels impossible to pick a side Insanities that dance and hide The truth becomes a broken lie Everywhere you look, everywhere you turn The future fights the past, the books begin to burn
