Somebody living in Eritraea, or in any other war torn impoverished country probably feels the same about you.. i.e. What have you done "apart from fall out of the right fanny" as you so delightfully phrased it, to justify having spent your life in a relatively peaceful, safe, and relatively affluent country. Wherever you look there is someone far better off or worse off than you and I. Life is, and never will be fair. Get over it. Prat!
Slight difference being that an Eritrean's income tax (assuming they pay it) isn't propping up his lifestyle or maintaining his numerous properties.
Not wanting to start and argument, and not a particular fan of the Cons (in spite of what one or two on here think), but I take it economics is not one of your strong points. BTW, I am not anti Scottish (my surname is Scottish, my ancestors on my dad's side up to my great Granddad were Scottish and live there until my Granddad moved South to Durham (mining) . I am afraid an independent Scotland is not viable and it would become Greece MkII (minus the sunshine). Much as detaching oneself from a London /SE centric Government is appealing (most in the North of England would agree) it would be suicidal. (and NO, it is not remotely similar to Brexit). It has the highest public spending deficit in the European Union -more than Greece- and taxpayers in the rest of the UK cover the deficit (Barnett formula). Heart ruling head I think.
The wedding pays for itself. 4 billion was the economy boost when William and Kate got married from TV rights, cheap tat sold worldwide, more booze/food sold in places like supermarkets etc. It's expected the boost for Harry will be even more billions because he's marrying someone who's already got a fanbase and America will have more interest with one of their own involved. It might be made a bank holiday for a three day weekend, feel good factor at a time when so much crap is happening in the world.
I noticed they kept mentioning the American lass was "mixed race" ... Shame they forgot to mention Harry 'Windsors' background..
Thanks for your input Tek and you are right economics is certainly not my strong point then again neither is it Mr Hammonds. Heart ruling head? Yes possibly but my head still tells me I and my family face a very bleak future under what is on offer atm. Sorry mate but my opinion is as a country (uk) we are done. Get out now while we can and leave the selfserving shower in the S.E. to pick up the pieces. I'm happy to take my chances which seem a better alternative.
You actually made a very good point and one which I considered myself, but then you went and spoiled it with an absolutely needless personal insult. Why?
Fair point in theory, but wouldn't the money for the wedding come out of the public purse, and most of the profits go back into private pockets?
Loss in productivity due to additional holiday decreases any value. Not that we will get. Public holiday for 5th in line.
Do me a favour. Don't reply to me again. I've no desire to converse with you. I don't think I've ever abused you personally. I know I've often disagreed with you opinions on things. Arrivederci
I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Redstar's gran isn't the unelected head of state of Eritrea, nor do the Eritrean public pay taxes to fund his lifestyle. No amount of misguided whataboutery can avoid the fact that the Royal Family are an anachronism from an age where people were considered better than others due to accident of birth. They have no place in a modern democracy.
I completely agree, but it doesn't mean that individual members of the royal family should be shown vitriol, just for being born into the royal family, something which they had absolutely no control over. Especially if they seem to be decent people, which Harry certainly does. Articles such as this one by Grace Dent in The Independent just come across as petty and spiteful, and do absolutely no favours to the abolitionist cause whatsoever. http://www.independent.co.uk/voices...ng-suits-working-kate-middleton-a8078291.html
