It happened with Danny & it's had zero impact on his standing at this club & quite rightly not. It's the perfect time. He/we can't lose.
Everyone has been brainwashed to think football is about logic & data & stats. It's about heart, romance & **** loads of luck. We need some joy in our lives not an algorithm.
We aren’t getting anyone with a great managerial record, certainly not one who’s done really well in the English leagues anyway so why not? I’m not a big subscriber to the view that managers are either good or bad, apart from your odd geniuses like Klopp & your odd useless manager like Morais most managers do well at some clubs & bad at others & once they’ve done bad a couple of times they only tend to get **** gigs anyway. Most managers know what they’re doing, there’s hundreds of ex-players who are qualified & can’t get past the interview stage so to get a job you’ve got to be pretty decent in the first place or have some incredible connections (such as Moutinho in Morais’ case). Redfearn won’t be any worse than than some gaffer we get who’s won the Lithuanian league & he’ll at least bring a bit of the feel good factor back too, well for about 30 minutes until we concede
What do you see as the big difference between the two? The shift from manager to head coach was designed to explain not having to be involved in lots of the admin processes of old. The reality is that most ‘managers’ now are actually head coaches. We still need someone who knows how to manage, and sadly for Redders he hasn’t proven himself capable of doing that - yet. Is he a better shout that Juergen Schlofflikov from Timbucktoo FC? Would definitely be a lot more fun
I see a manager as someone in charge. Bringing their own staff in, putting policies & frameworks in place & basically being the gaffer of all things football at the club. We don't have or want that. I see a Head Coach as someone who is placed in a role & basically works with what he's given & has a much more limiting remit. Yeah he can influence to some degree but the final say isn't his on all things football. I think we need a manager but I can't see one coming in for a Head Coach job. If that makes any sense. It's late.
We have nothing left as fans really so at least it would give us something to cheer again..... to think anyone would totally disregard redders achievements as a player with us in relation to how he performed as a manager seems bizarre to me.
Literally playing devil’s advocate, but did Stendel not get to bring his own staff in? He also spoke openly about having his philosophy running through all the different age groups, and how he had to work with Disco on what the press really was. Was like crocodile Dundee - that’s not the press. This is the press. Our Head Coach isn’t some puppet outside of working within a recruitment model. But I know what you’re getting at. I reckon more current bosses fall in to your Head Coach description than the Manager one though.
