Have we had a worse centre-half pairing?

I remember an away game at Crewe when Andy Marriott was in goal behind Mulligan, Crookes, Flynn and Gibbs. They were woeful but at least they didn't get the basics as far wrong as this lot do.

Of course I did. I got very bored during the second half.

Brings back memories... we were top of the league for a very short time with those two! Three clean sheets in August and we won at Saltergate to go top I recall... or second! Shame it all went wrong very soon after mind...

Who were both competent. Very limited but they knew where to stand

They were dreadful and both experienced. Andersen alone is better. Short memories.

Whats worse is opponents know exactly how to play us. There was a reason they attacked down our left channel, given we cant defend balls in the air and let it bounce their high balls into Anderson weren't by accident or just hoof ball. There was a reason they didn't double up on Jordan Williams as we aren't a threat there and instead just stopped any supply from centre mid. There was a reason why their centre halves at times stood chatting to each other arms behind their back. Preston did exactly what they came to do.

We are easy to play against in defence. I cringed watching the highlights back and how many times we did exactly the opposite of what you get coached at under 10s. They looked bad live and even more embarrassing on playback.

Anderson is dreadful has been all season its embarrassing to watch. Efforts there but he just struggles with defending.

Played a very worrying part in all 3 goals. This lad has been poor all season with the ball at his feet.

From what I've seen of Andersen, albeit not as much as most on here will have seen, he looks to be at the stage where he needs taking out of the side for his own good.

There must be a better option somewhere in the squad, even if it is someone playing there as a makeshift. If Pinillos is fit to play, I'd put him there, would even consider Dougall at CB above Andersen at the moment.

I recently started playing Championship Manager 01/02 again because it's the best game ever, and our defenders at the start of that season are beautiful.

Chettle and Morgan I can live with, although Chettle was 3 years passed being useful. Mulligan and Regan are the right backs. Barnard and Barker (R.I.P) the left backs, with O'Callaghan, Salli, Crooks and Kevin Dixon (remember him?) on the books. There's promising young centre halves called Jon Parkin and Anthony Kay. Miller and Marriott the keepers.

I don't know what point im making but I enjoyed typing this up. Carl Barrowclough is ace too.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003–04_Barnsley_F.C._season

71 league games between them that season and we finished 12th. After 29 games this season we have a -19 goal difference and have let in 54 goals.

After 29 games that season we had let in 32 goals. Handyside and Ireland are far better than our current central defenders.

He has been poor all season to be fair just off top of my head derby at home he was shocking gifted them a goal and a pen, derby away he had another shocker giving the ball away regular and getting dragged out of position, last night he had another nightmare. Those are the 3 worst games I've seen him play but he hasn't impressed me at all. Even the preston ifollow commentators commented on his failure to actually clear the danger under little pressure.
He needs a rest but we havent got anyone to give him that rest. I wasnt a massive adam jackson fan but I think he would definitely be in the starting 11 had he stayed.

We had something like 15 or 16 central midfielders or our books that season.

    Top work Spackman.

We sure did. I can list them....

    Ward
    Tinkler
    Hayward
    Bernard
    Crooks
    Appleby
    Neil
    Jones

Those off the top of my head from looking at the squad. Plus the one and only Kevin Donovan.

Then Lee Jones, Dyer, Sheron, Rankin, Gallen, Fallon and Gorre up front.

    Hash tag squad depth.
