Or a poorer manager than I have him credit for “You get nothing for being cautious, especially in the position we find ourselves right now, what have we got to lose?" Says Paul, 1 up front, 2 defensive midfielders, heckingbottom
He's a fantastic manager who was made to look poor by inheriting a squad that was sold for peanuts. That is all. There. Hope that helps.
I think the jury is still out to be honest he took over from lee Jay we were on a great run 7 wins on bounce just reached Wembley the players we had were unbelievable for league one. Roberts mawson isgrove hammill brownhill Conor Marley scowern Fletcher ect. We got promoted with by far the best squad in the league we had the momentum behind us and did well in the championship. The players he brought in were poor and he deemed George Williams not good enough. This season he has been terrible Bradshaw upfront alone moncur on wing mowatt on wing against Bristol with actual wingers on bench. Stuck with Davies who was costing a goal a game. When things got bad it was always someone else's fault the players aren't listening ect. Spent more I'm the summer than any barnsley manager ever and in his own word his signings players HE wanted.
That’s a bizarre criticism to make of him. He’s said numerous times his preferred system is 4-4-2, he’s had to go with one up top because Thiam & Ugbo weren’t fit for purpose & he was given a bunch of midfielders who weren’t suited to playing in a central 2
The team he inherited was absolutely fantastic. Full credit to him for keeping a settled team and steering them to promotion. The games v Wigan, Walsall and Millwall turned out to be men against boys. We were ridiculously superior, and the fact that half of our team was lured away speaks volumes for how good we were individually. As for now? I dunno if he's any good. He's been good at dropping little hints to get the fans on the boards back and deflect blame from himself. My question was always, how long could he dine out on his promotion success and people's downer on the board? Would we have still been singing "he's one of our own" at forest Green and Accrington? The job is the job at Barnsley. We all know the manager won't have a pot to piss in, so why start bellyaching when things start to go awry? Just get stuck in and do your best in spite of the finances rather than using them as an excuse for being poor.
Fair comment, but when we had a spare man on Saturday he kept two defensive midfielders on and we just went sideways and put crosses in. The crosses were a waste of time because he decided to take Moore off.
Raise his eyebrows as he watches on sky sports news and goes back to making calls for vacancies in league 2 I expect.
And yet he played for a nil nil bore draw just a few days ago and kept two defensive midfielders on while losing against ten men.
He was starting to sound like Keith Hill towards the end, no doubt he got a tough gig but didn't we know about it.
