The only reason Hecky would consider somewhere daft like Sunderland at this moment in time - is if he's heard rumours that the new owners are likely to replace him.
Prospective new owners, which is all they are at present, are unlikely to signal any intentions about such a key position. This is more likely to be guesswork based on his connections to Sunderland and the fact that Hecky is a brilliant young manager.
For a 'next-manager-of-a-Championship-club' book, a few quid will make the price really shorten. Move along. Nowt to see here.
I think they'd be less chance of a takeover if Hecky left. I think the main reason the takeover is even close to happening is due to 'the plan'. Others might be responsible for identifying potential players and recruiting them, but if you can't coach them to their potential, then there's no appearance and profit from the future transfer.
8/1 Ladbrokes, Corals, 9/1 Skybet, 10/1 Betvictor. Suggests he is at least under consideration. 'Name' and 'experienced' managers have failed Sunderland; Hecky makes more sense given how Short seems to want to run his club. Hecky has pledged his loyalty, but at £4.7M for three years v £1.5M (my guess) loyalty to his family may (and should) come first. Hope not, but easy to see.
The bloke and his team clearly have managerial talent which is a little more rare in this age of spend big and if it doesn't work out, do it again at your next club. On this basis, I reckon he'll move on at some point. I would like to see him give the plan it's full backing to see how far he can take us though. Another 32 years in the job should do it.
The whole point of "the plan" is that Hecky is the coach not a traditional "manager" - this means that the coach can change but the philosophy remains intact. Now, whether we can find a replacement for Hecky who is as good a coach is the question - not if he goes somehow the whole system falls apart.
Better get use to it, he's done a fantastic job here and will attract attention. As for Sunderland, he's had a couple of digs at the club, things may not be as rosey as some may have you want to believe... so who knows. Definitely be our loss if he went.. I think Hecky's a Top man and coach,,so hope he stays, but all the very best if he moves on.. everything comes to an end..
Long may the conjecture continue. It shows what a great job he's doing and his work has been proved to be no flash in the pan. I'd be far more worried if his name wasn't continually cropping up with other managerial posts in the Championship.
