RE: The Ritz [Peel Street] - had my first kiss on't back row

The Ritz in the 1960's Art Deco cinema was allowed to be pulled down (by the agreement no doubt of bone-head councillors at that time) to be replaced by that awesome piece of architecture - THE COOP concrete and pebbledash car park, which is now defunct.
Still, I've got my memories of Sandra from Athersley. Wonder where you are now!!

I wouldn't go that far, but thanks anyway. I just had a few old books kicking around that I scanned in for you. Also, I know someone who used to be a projectionist at the Ritz, so I knew a little bit from him.

I have a picture of the Gaumont, but obviously the Gaumont & The Odeon are one and the same.

Why did you need the photos, and which ones are you still missing?

    That's interesting

According to Barnsley Streets, it's The Empire. But I think you are (both) correct to think it is The Alhambra. At any rate, it is a fantastic looking building.

I telephoned my Dad, and he thinks that The Empire; The Gaumont & The Odeon were / are all the same building (they were just renamed). Obviously, I already knew that The Odeon & Gaumont were the same place.

    Thanks,
    Stephen

Looking close at the 'bill boards' the Empire is on the titles, though.
