Thought they'd shot themselves in the foot with this but they've actually done really well. Especially leaving the shirt unbranded. Impressive.
Credit where it's due, that is a brilliant piece of marketing in that it's got quite a lot of the football community discussing Huddersfield Town and Paddy Power. Job done really.
Paddy Power really are brilliant on social media. And I must admit that kit is going to be the smartest in the league this season! Wouldn’t mind us moving to Umbro on completion of the Puma contract
The other aspect of this of course, if as anticipated, the FA fine Huddersfield for wearing the kit in the friendly at Oldham, because it breaches the advertising regulations, the whole matter will hit the sports headlines yet again. You would think that PP will pick the tab up for that, but for them, the overall publicity they will get from it will be well worth it.
The fake Paddy Power kits have just been put up for auction for a week and if they don't get another bid in the next six days that's still a lot of cash for some great causes, which justifies the two day campaign they did...... https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/officialhtafc/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from= https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/spor...sfield-town-announce-charity-auction-16616925 The commercial director is happy with it too....... https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/sean-jarvis-huddersfield-kit-charity-16614340
In today's paper it says that Huddersfield Towns " prank" Paddy Power sash shirts have raised a total of £25,000 for local charities. The fifteen shirts offered sold for an average of £1,850 each on e-Bay. The shirt worn by their Captain Christopher Schindler went for a staggering £3,750. Great piece of marketing that has certainly benefitted some good local causes. In view of what's been done it will be interesting to see what action if any the FA take for what was technically a breach of their rules regarding the sizing of sponsors logos. Postscript Presumably £2,750 was spent on fees and overheads, leaving £25k for the charities.
2,750 quid the last shirt on Ebay is currently going for. 27,992 is what the others went for according to the Examiner paper today. So the prank has made over thirty grand to be split between three great charities. I'd say it's been worthwhile.
Fantastic idea. Not done Town or PP any harm as well. A real collectors item. Could be worth a few bob in a few years from now.
