Or should that be - wishing we had new owners 2 years after Patrick Cryne took over the ownership of the club.
What we had in Patrick was basically a man who loved his town and his football club.
I suspect he didn’t know much about football - but somehow he managed to muggle along - probably because he was getting some good advice from others such as Maurice Watkins.

Patrick was a rich man - but unfortunately for us Barnsley fans he wasn’t rich enough to compete in the Championship.
Many times the club had to make do and mend when it came to recruitment.
But during that time a long list of young talented loan players have played at the club.

So I always wanted someone to get ownership of the club that could compete in the Championship.
I didn’t want someone with Zillions to spend - just someone that could purchase young players like Drinkwater or Pearson that became available while playing on loan at the club.

What we have now are owners that can do just that - they can compete in the Championship.
But instead of building on what was in place while Patrick was in charge - the new owners have clumsily jumped straight in and .....
THROWN THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATH WATER.

The recruitment plan at Barnsley didn’t want overhauling - it just needed tweaking.
IT DOES NOT NEED A 7 POUND HAMMER TO CRACK A NUT.

Reverting back to the original recruitment policy would mean bringing in a few senior players and mixing them with young talent - and IMPORTANTLY YOUNG LOANEES.
Then there is time to see how these loanees faired in the Championship - with a view of trying to sign them at a later date.
Just imagine where we would be now if we had been able to sign some of the young loan players that have been through the club in the last 10 years or so.

Been a long time coming this post. Our new owners have less money than PC. why you ask because they don’t want to invest anything more than they have into BFC. They haven’t got rich by spending their own money.

They haven't overhauled it. They've just tweaked it in terms of age and loans. Other than that, it's just the same.

You think Patrick didn't know much about football? He'd probably forgotten more than this shower will ever know.

Patrick Cryne was a life long supporter of Barnsley fc and and such must have learned over the years about football and footballers. To suggest he didn't know much about football is frankly an insult to his memory. I think that he did know a basic principle --you don't sell your best players and get better. However he tried to run the club on limited funds in football terms anyway. And that's the difference ie he was a fan who loved Barnsley FC , I suspect the present board aren't BFC fans but a business consorting who want to make money not lose their own on investing in Barnsley FC. I hope we can start tomorrow and turn this season around because it's what I want, the reds fans want ,I hope this board wants and Patrick C would want if he were still here.

How much money did Patrick Cryne have? How much month do our owners have? When we are urging the owners to spend spend spend we are assuming they are billionaires. What if they don’t have as much money as PC did?

Supposedly one of the richest boards in the entire football league if reports are to believed. But I think they never had ever any intentions of putting any of their own money into the club to be honest.

I loved being own by Patrick Cryne, a fan and in my experience a very wise, intelligent and decent bloke (I appreciate not all share this view)

I was always certain he had the clubs interests at heart, just like any of us would do, if we owned it.

I never understood the clamour for new owners etc. Their motive would only ever be to make money, which usually conflicts with the interests of erm, the football.

It is now very clear that the most effective financial model for the owners is to bounce between league one and the championship, selling players when their stock is high, which is usually after promotion or after a good season in league one. This will bring with it ups and downs, but most of all long term frustration I suspect.

if you can sign a player on say 4k per week over 4 years the outlay is £600k plus transfer fee say £1m if you sell in year 3 of the contract when value is highest. Sell for £4m profit is £2.4m

that is a lot more financially viable model than £20,000 per week player with £4m outlay. Sell in year 3 and you are having to sell for £10m to make it look more worthwhile. It is highly risky and you have to get it right more often. Get it wrong once and you are stuffed. It requires a lot of investment to spread the risk.

they don’t have the money or are not willing to risk it.

That’s what we are stuck with.

I won’t support this - we are just a vehicle to line their pockets.

Let's face it the clubs in a right state at the minute on and off the field. If it was patrick and we were in this mess he wouldnt be hiding he would be talking to the fans and telling us where we go from here etc, this lot just come across totally arrogant and asif they dont give a **** about us fans. And like fitzy said patrick forgot more than this lot know about football.

I heard that Patrick didn't know a great deal about football and James knows even less.
But even so - they would very likely to know more than these new owners.

What I can gather Patrick was intelligent enough to understand he needed help - and this is where is friendship with Maurice Watkins became invaluable.
With the sound of it Maurice knows everybody and their grandmothers in football - including strong ties with Manchester United where he was a director.

As for wealth - what I have read.
Patrick was worth about £70 MILLION.
Combined wealth of these owners is £14 BILLION.
That is 200 times wealthier than Patrick.
If these owners wanted to take Barnsley to the Premeir they have the means to achieve this.

    Who says.
All the reports I’ve read are more or less saying the same thing.
For a start Chien Lee reported wealth £9 Billion.

Patrick was a massive football and Barnsley fan from been a child so I imagine he knew a fair bit about football.

If these owners wanted to take us to the premiership they probley could mount a challenge but I dont think they took us over to do that, i dont even believe they have as much wealth as the figures suggest. I see some people are clinging on to abit of hope that these owners are going to start putting the club and fans before profits and we will start moving forward but its abit sad and I cant see it happening. Silence speaks volumes.

I've been a "massive football fan and Barnsley fan from" being "a child" too - does that make me qualified to buy and run a football club efficiently ????

Any evidence of their combined wealth? I haven't spoke to a single person who's seen even a shred of evidence

James is the strange one for me. He's the link between the old and the new, and is supposedly a reds fan like us, but he's party to the mess. Does he back the austerity? Is he trying to advise them? Are they even interested in his opinion?? Who knows?

As for the silent shower that have bought the club. If they are as wealthy as reports suggest, why have they taken on a club just to keep it afloat and piss off its fanbase?

Well no but to say someone knows nothing about football is different, you would expect someone who has watched football and took a interest in football all his life to know abit about the game. As for conway he should have stuck to rounders.
