The game has eaten itself. Not sure I ever want us to be part of that club again.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46197761
The Premier League was always about money - but it has done some good. There is a lot that I miss about the pre-prem game and there are times when it feels like football has totally lost its way. Anyone who has experienced the sterile environment of the Ricoh Arena has to agree with that. The 'movement' of Wimbledon to Milton Keynes etc. There is no doubt about it top flight footballers are incredibly over paid. This being said, the game is safer and more family oriented now with far less hooliganism and safer stadia. TV coverage is vastly improved in quantity and quality. In terms of football quality we have a top flight that can attract the very best players in the world. I do think that the Premier League product damages our commitment to international football though and as the Premier League has got stronger, the international setup has been neglected. In terms of that guy getting a £5 million bonus - they laugh at that in the city of London compared to the value he has added to the product. It's tiny. As a demonstration of ethical confidence they should pay it through Harry Redknapp's dog's bank account though or put it in a brown envelope.
I don't think this is true. Who has there been over the last ten years, who has been among the top ten players in the world, playing in the Prem, when at their peak, and wasn't English? They go to Spain to play for Barca or Real, or remain in Italy or Germany, or maybe go for the even crazier money at PSG.
Absolutely disgusting. Football greed. If clubs wish to donate such amounts. Donate where it’s actually needed. Grass roots. The money comes from joe public paying extortionate amounts via sky, BT and advertising etc. Worlds gone mad.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46200473 they have appointed someone who is good at television and digital media. tells you all you need to know. about how they actually see the football.
Below the top 4 teams in Italy,Germany and Spain there's nowt much left really . Some championship and even L1 clubs will be paying better wages than the mid to lower end of those leagues . It's either the 'trickle down effect' of the premier league or 'capitalism', depends which way you swing .
Sadly! I was only disagreeing cos it's a common point made to justify the massive amounts chucked about. In the meantime the gap widens and widens and clubs like us are stood here. I don't know the solution, but it's not giving him £5 million quid!
