    Stores shut in plunge scare
A WOMAN who spent more than five hours threatening to jump off a ledge inside a Barnsley shopping centre yesterday had done the same thing days earlier.

The woman, in her late 30s, was seen on a ledge at the top of the Alhambra Centre, beneath the glass atrium, just after 10am.
Police were called and half of the mall was cordoned off and the affected shops closed after she told security staff she would jump.
Police negotiators spent the next five hours trying to talk her down.
She finally gave herself up and was led away across the roof top car park to an unmarked police car at 3.30pm.
A Barnsley police spokesman said the woman was taken to Barnsley hospital for a medical assessment.
Shopkeepers confirmed what looked to be the same woman had caused an identical alert for three hours on Saturday when she threatened to jump from the same ledge.
One said: "Both times she was stood on a ledge below the atrium and could have jumped all the way to the cafe on the ground floor. But this time the incident lasted nearly twice as long. Security staff knew exactly what to do and set up a cordon on both levels half way into the centre and the police added tape when they arrived.
"There were police officers, community support officers, people in plain clothes and a fair few Alhambra security staff involved.
"About 10 shops like Next, Woolworths and Partners were all forced to close.
Thank God we didn't have a tragedy. I hope she gets the treatment she needs, we don't want anything like this to happen again."
Sgt Darren Taylor praised the work of officers in managing the situation.
He said: "We kept it very low key and the woman remained very clear and calm throughout."
One motorist, who was unable to return to his car for four hours, said: "I can't believe it, the exact same thing happened on Saturday. I hope they now close off that area of the Alhambra so it can't happen again."
Mark Broadhead, Mall Alhambra general manager, confirmed a similar incident had occurred on Saturday.
He added: "I'm just happy that it's been resolved in an amicable and professional way."
