Edwina Currie said she could also live on £53 a week. 5live wanted her to come into the studio to talk about it. She wanted £500 fee.

 

Doesn't he live rent-free in a 5- bedroomed gaff set in acres of land? We're all in this together tha knows.

The Tories may seem out of touch to many but the burgeoning welfare burden left by the last government had to be addressed.

So does the estimated 120 billion pound in unpaid corporate taxes - this has not been addressed.

 

Considerably more than half of the welfare bill is pensions, and those have just been increased.

JSA accounts for just 3% of the total welfare bill, if I've remembered correctly.

 

Yeah but easily led people cant see that , because the media(right wing media especially) do not keep telling them that !!
If someone is told often enough that another thing really is true, eventually enough people will really believe it to be true, even if there are no actual real evidence that it is anything other than a total blindside move to get people angry at poorer people , while allowing the richer people to fill their boots without a care in the world.
Everyone knows that the Welfare State is to blame for everything, people that need a helping hand are all scroungers and malingerers, I know because I see it every day in the papers and on the tele, so it must be true, Cameron and Osborne say its because of these scroungers that we need to save all the billions, which just happens to be the exact same amount of billions being given out in tax breaks for the richer people! Go figure !!

Do you know how much welfare spending increased between, say, 1996 and 2010?

 

It's quite possible to live on 53 notes a week for the short term, however in the long term it's fundamentally dangerous for your own well beign.

And didn't ibs live off the dole for a number of months prior to 'dropping lucky'?

And you I recall mentioned his sprawling property as we are all in it together. Mr Prescott was and to an extent one of the biggest feeders in the government trough and this country will still be sorting out the mess labour government under bliar etc in the next successive governments be it Tory, labour, liberals etc.
