… for every time this season that a commentator said “Barnsley look very nervous at the back”, I could have bought the club and invested in some better defenders, making us much harder to beat and greatly improving our chances of having a much improved points tally resulting in a much more successful season than we have had, where I haven’t received any pennies whenever anyone has said “Barnsley look very nervous at the back”.
I can’t argue that we could do with better defenders - who couldn’t - but as bad as any team is, the minimum they can be is compact, tight, drilled. You can coach anyone to properly mark from a set piece. The quality of the players isn’t the problem, I’m way past thinking that.
Pines is the only one I hope hangs around. Williams is a shocking captain. Roberts is at fault for too many goals. Earl and MDV aren't top end league one class.
No way he gets player of season, too slow, too lightweight, too many silly errors, too many lost headed duels, I honestly think those on here that think he’s done well haven’t a clue about what a centre half is supposed to be good at
I think it’s both tbh, and if you think we have good defenders at the moment I like to ask what position you played at football?
Poor defenders who are slow to the ball and slow on the ball. They also seemingly can’t head a ball in their own box. Not helped by no defensive tactics whatsoever it would appear.
I agree mate, but it’s basics they get wrong too, such as not picking men up at set pieces, whether they play zonal or man marking this is something they will have been schooled in from an early age, it’s not something they have just tried to learn this season. If any of them were leaders then they would be organising the defence on the pitch too.
I think there's only Jalo and McAtee that would get in today's Blackpool side, the rest would struggle to get into Swaithe mains Sunday side.
