If labour won the election?

As labours only chance of winning this election seems to be for the treacherous tories to implode with their hard nosed self serving policies, would that really be the best result for the country?
I for one would rather the government lost out to somebody much stronger rather than what would feel like default because at the minute all I'm hearing is how bad the other party is as oppose to how good they are themselves.

 

Seeing as TM called the election to strengthen her grip on power thinking that Labour was imploding and 20% down in the opinion polls, it would be a serious case of Schadenfreude if they lost after self-destructing while their opponents got their act together.

 

The Labour Party have put forward a strong positive manifesto offering choice and difference. I don't think they will win but May has shown herself to be weak and wobbly rather than strong and stable.

Labour are rightly pointing out the deficiencies of the Tor Government but have offered a positive vision of what they would do.

 

I couldn't vote for a party headed by an IRA supporting, holocaust denier, a Marxist and a racist that can't count,

 

You understand a current Tory councillor was a member of the IRA
White male Tory Dominic Raab had just as chaotic an interview and can't count as much as Dianne Abbott but wasn't anywhere near as lambasted
As for racism how do you feel about the tories once running under the banner “If you want a ****** for a neighbour, vote Labour.”
So I guess you'll not be voting for them or does your hubris only extend to those dacre and Murdoch tell it to?

 

Don't repeat lies. Argue and discuss differences of opinion. Lying about the character of others is beneath contempt. It fuels a dislike of politics and convinces people that things can never get better. Have a word with yourself you should be ashamed.

 

But it's OK for someone on here to call Teresa May a ******* without an hint of criticism? It's both vulgar and unnecessary.

Personal insults are not particularly helpful. There is of course a difference between that and repeating and repeating a lie in tbe hope that people think it's true. Some of the people hiding behind parliamentary privilege should be truly ashamed. People repeating it are beneath contempt.

One is not helpful. One hits at tbe very heart of the problem with society. If I called someone a ******* I'd probably regret it later. If I deliberately lied about someone's character I'd be ashamed of myself.

Perhaps we have different standards.

 

It's more likely to flow out after Brexit if we are honest about it whatever party is in.power.

 

It's times like today and what's happened in Manchester that makes me wish that all the main parties would get their heads together , stop bickering and work for the common good of the country . I'd vote for a 4 way coalition all day long .

 

Which parties miss out then? Largest four parties by vote share were Tory, Labour, UKIP, Liberal. By MPs, Tory, Labour, SNP, Liberal *and* DUP (both got 8). But that ignores the Greens (1MP 1.15M voters), Sinn Fein (4MPs 176K voters), Plaid Cymru (3 MPs 181k voters) and various others.

Thats not to say that a coalition government might be in the best interest of the country and would almost certainly have stopped the lurch between alternate ideologies over the last 40 years. We'd need proper PR for the voting though to do it.

I'd agree with you there. Certainly the non conservative parties should form a progressive alliance at the very least b

I totally disagree with this. Except perhaps the Greens.

 

I get that and I can understand it given our political system and our adversarial political model. From my own point of view ww need a change of electoral system and parties in power that want to steer the country in a positive direction. Feels more important to me than party politics and I can see the value of checks and balances against excesses of power. As I said I respect your view and can appreciate why you hold it. I think the post EU world offers new challenges that are best met with a left leaning government than a hard right one pursuing its own ideological agenda and chasing Ukip votes.

 

Didn't Corbyn successfully sue the Times in 87 for calling him an IRA sympathiser. Those not able to hide behind parliamentary privilege should be wary of repeating lies.
