I’m not concerned about us keeping him I think that would be a given. More of an issue is the fact I wasn’t sure on one of Struhbers interviews he would want to stay if relegated. If an offer came in from a higher status I’m sure he would consider it. In the Yorkshire post he’s quoted as saying he will look at the situation after the Brentford game. As far as I can gather he has 2 yrs left on his contract. But he may have inserted clauses himself. To be able to leave.
I’ll guarantee you that if Struber took over last summer he wouldn’t have been able to gel a completely new defence with no championship experience within a few weeks. I don’t think any manager would. You honestly think if that Millwall game was back in August we’d have held out under Struber? Not a chance. I’d also advise anyone calling Stendel tactically inept to go back & look at the players he had available at the start of the season. Brown missed virtually all his games, Woodrow missed a few, Mowatt missed a couple. Dougall was out. If you look at how few central defenders & midfielders we had & the lack of a striker who could win a header we had no real option but to try & take the game to the opposition. If we’d have tried to soak up pressure we’d have taken some right hammerings in my opinion. If you look at the promotion season he’d already shown he’d learned from his own mistakes when we went too attacking (away at Sunderland) & then in the second half of the season set us up in a 4-5-1 on several occasions in tougher games even before Moore’s head injury. I find it hard to believe that he wasn’t going to be willing to play a more defensive style in the championship when he’d already done it in league one.
I wasn’t particularly embarrassed. They were much better than us on the day, those kind of days are the ones that hurt but you learn from. And we should aspire to get to where they are, they haven’t spent astronomical figures.
Is our strategy of buying cheap and selling high still viable in the post-COVID world? If a number of clubs go under, it might no longer be an option to rely on selling players at inflated prices to make money and stay afloat. We (along with most other clubs) might have to rely on cheap, youngsters and any older players demanding silly money might find themselves unemployed.
Don`t like sacking managers cos at the end of the day they are much of a muchness and all copy the successful teams without having the artillery those teams have. Both Stendell and Struber kept/ keep insisting on this playing out from back at goal kicks, bores the ******* pants off me. Its the entertainment business aint it. If anyone puts money darn for Stroobs sevices he`s off no doubt because he `s just another possible asset to the board. 3 losses and haif our fans will be bringing forth new manager names for next season.
The Financial Statements of Championship clubs are awash with debt. What is more, they are stuck with player pay contracts that were unaffordable pre-Covid, let alone post-Covid. The question for owners is this, are you going to carry on as before, but funding losses to an even greater extent in order to chase the chance of a Premiership solution, or are you going to cut back and take the hit. The post-Covid football world is going to be very different, but I do not think that anyone has worked out what the effect will be yet. The thing is, our owners have spent nothing yet, other than the amount that they paid to the Cryne family in order to acquire the shares. At the last Q&A session with the CEO, I asked whether the owner was prepared to fund further investment, and under what circumstances. Securing their investment to date by making a modest investment in order to tide us over the Covid hump would seem a reasonable step to take, given the mess that some clubs and some owners are going to find themselves in when this all pans out.
I would definitely keep him regardless of the final position we occupy this season. I think the board will also back him and give him more time.
We could sell any of our player - but we must keep Struber. The fella has done brilliantly under very testing circumstances.
Keep him, a very very young squad, a weaker squad than last season ( imo)a vast majority of the starting 11 were part of a new team assembled pre season, they are getting better and will only get better, also many signed 4 year contracts and if they continue to improve then things look good, let's be realistically who at the moment would do better, who we could afford, we may be a championship club but we wont attract a good championship manager because of the money on offer ( thank god, dont want to do a wigan) I would definitely keep him COYR
You have failed to acknowledge that Stendel had his team ripped to pieces in the summer and replaced with untested kids. That’s a Fact on a stick. That team last year would have finished mid table in this league with Stendel in charge, imho of course.
Let’s not forget - Matt Rose and Adam Murray are just as important as Struber. They all need retaining. Remember Gudjon’s team faltering when Glavin left as assistant.......
Keep Struber, I can't see the team getting ripped to pieces this time around. The only transfer market that will exist over the summer is for Premier League clubs and the last of the nutters that want to gamble it all on promotion. Only Woodrow might fit the upper-echelons on the Championship, the rest of our squad isn't that calibre yet.
I agree. Players will stay unless suitable bids come in. The likes of Mowatt will be secretly glad his option was extended. You don't want leaving without a chair when the music stops.
Yes. I think that Struber has also been on a learning curve regarding Championship football and there is sound evidence that he has progressed in his thinking as a tactician and not just as a coach. One concern I did have was the look which Conor Chaplin gave the bench when scoring two minutes after coming on. If we succeed, whether in the Championship, or League One next season, it will be based on good team spirit, as well as good coaching and organisation. I don't think that Conor likes the idea of being an impact sub, though. I hope that the rest of the squad are one hundred per cent behind Struber, as he is showing signs of being a very effective coach and tactician. PS Although he won't like it, I would still hold Chaplin back as an impact sub on Saturday. The result is the score at the end of ninety minutes and Chaplin has shown already that he is very effective in changing a game. COYR
I don't mind a bit of needle, I think most successful clubs have that in them. Good on Chaplin for having a go back and if Struber's got anything about him, he'd have admired his passion too.
