One of whom was Yiadom. Who we were all baffled by. Sometimes, the board can show a bit of wisdom.

    Exactly.
We as fans don't know how these contracts are put together - but it's something the club MUST sort out if Barnsley is to have any degree of success in the Championship.

And what gets me - is that this thread is one of dozens concerning players contracts and NOT ONE of the directors have come out to say that they have heard our concerns and will deal with the problem.
    It's disgusting.

When we sign lower league players we give them the opportunity to play at the highest level they have ever played at (obviously!) also they will be on the most money they have ever been on (obviously!) however, this might not be a lot of money in championship terms.
If then, the player proves his worth, like a lot of them have, we have an absolute bargain for the 2 or 3 years we have him signed up, however, once he plays well, everyone will know about him & then the markets open for him to get big money & that won't happen down here.

We will never resign players at the end of a contract, McDonald got improved terms mid deal, as did Davies, both are young & realise their development is key for them now & are playing regular.

I listened to Patrick at the pre season forum down at Oakwell & he talked of paying relative small amounts for Winnall & Hourihane, both in transfers & wages, for what we received from them & who he said served us well & would leave at the end of their deals, i tended to agree with him at the time & it's something that hasn't happened down here very much.

However the reality has been harder for us all to accept, especially when we were so close to play off spots & we can all agree goals & set pieces, along with the team & results, have been weaker for them going.

We signed Mowatt on big(ger) wages & he has yet to impress, every signing is a risk, but the ones with a small financial risk are obviously easier to make.

It's a great talking point, but something impossible to get right all the time.

One or two might but I very much doubt someone like Winnall would have done

That's difficult to say. It depends on the players options at the time. We presumably signed Winnall because we offered him the best contract. It seems unlikely that this would have prevented the signing if you gave the right level of performance based incentived pay rise. If not then you may have to move onto a different target.

As I said such clauses are relatively common. We use them ourselves ( though i suspect without the pay increase). Ryan Williams came from a 'bigger' club than Scunny and on higher wages but happily signed one.

Non League Mark Roberts/McDonald would have signed one though he would be daft to do so now as would I believe Hourihane, Yiadom and Winnall and Scowen all from L2 If sold in the right way.

You just need clarity about your strategy.

If Patrick thinks that we can spend money, time and effort in developing players to a high standard - for those players then to be transferred for usually next to nowt - that go on to benefit other clubs - then the sooner he passes the baton of ownership onto someone else then the better for all concerned.

Two players that we signed for relatively low fees, went on to play in over 200 games, gave us god knows how many goals and assists, and played a vital part in last season and were then sold for a combined fee of over £2million*?

Yeah, I agree, let's chalk **** on it and go back to signing players like Mido.

*reported fee - before somebody mentions it.

I know that we are close to signing two players from Scotland.
But what I will say, is the lack of a CEO or equivalent is really not helping to get these deals pushed over the line.
And I am only aware of the movements the club has made up here. So I can only presume the same can be said for any potential transfer activity down south and abroad. Hecky can't do everything on his own. It needs sorted quickly or we will be heavily disadvantaged for next season.

No mate. Both very good players though. Hope the deals are pushed through soon before they are prised away.

Certainly not one of the two I am aware of. One from one of the Edinburgh teams and one from the dons. Can't wait to share but I don't want to cause any issues.
As I said above, I just hope the club get their finger out. The players are wanting to join too.

Is the Aberdeen player a left back? Only other player we have been linked to in the past is Hayes but he doesn't really fit our model of resell value.

Would be delighted with if it is Shinnie. And we were looking at Cummings from Hibs. Given our need for strikers that would be a cracking signing if his heads right.
