City paid that for Pablo Moreno, 19 years old in 2020. Similar for Douglas Luis (midfielder, now at Villa).
They've just paid £8m for a young Brazillian (Kayky I think) who will get nowhere near the team for 2 years. Madrid boight Rodrygo (?) for about £30m and loaned him back to selling club, Munich do the same frequently (at the £10m level).
Moreno- valued at £9 million but didnt pay for him, debatable given his credentials if you’d class him as a potential either, although I would agree he wasn’t bought for the first team now. Luiz - similar he’s signed for £15 million, but excellent reputation at Man City, then a successful year in Spanish league, straight into team so is that potential or was he bought to slot straight in.
The fee bandied about was always outlandish wasn,t it, at the moment he would be a gamble to shell out big money on, i hope we keep him he seems a really nice grounded kid and there is potential there but nowhere near £10 million...
He's scored 1 in his last 7 so it's not just Swansea who have found him out. He was better in the second leg as he didn't commit to challenges so didn't give away as many cheap free kicks. If someone like Chelsea signed him to loan out for a couple of seasons to different clubs, he would make them a profit.
I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm just saying a few teams do gamble ~£10m on potential. But most teams don't and can't afford to. So to go back to the op and my comment, I think if you can afford the gamble and are happy to polish a rough diamond he's worth £10m. If you're a top division team and want immediate impact he's not.
No, didn’t think you was and I’m also trying not to be. I agree if you have the money etc, I’m just trying to say he’s not in the same class or pedigree as either of them two. If people were saying £5 million I would agree he could be worth a punt, but you generally don’t see teams even in the PL splashing £10 million + on players with his playing history.
His values more volatile than bitcoin If we've got any chance of signing him we should be making it happen as soon as possible, even at the expense of maybe selling Helik to fund it.
Eight clubs is the current rising number interested in him..... https://www.themaneland.com/2021/5/31/22461032/lion-links-5-31-21 Be some coup if we get him what with us having a fee agreed.
It's brilliant this thread. If we were selling him, half the people in it would be saying "accept no less than £15+ million /Peterborough would hold out for more / if X is worth X then Dike is worth X" etc, but because we're buying, he's not worth £10m. Brilliant!
It’s really simple. If you take him at face value right now, he’s probably not worth 10 million. But he has a very good chance to be worth a hell of a lot more than that in the next few years. Which makes him worth 10 million now.
Yep, spot on is this. I remember some on here saying Ivan Tony is nowhere near as good as Woodrow and Brentford paid too much for him, Peterborough had their pants down etc. 1 season later, 30+goals, a play off final win and promotion to the PL.
Absolutely! The amount received by a seller of any item or the services of anyone, anywhere is only what someone else is willing to pay. . Speculation and hype can, on occasions, have a small influence but in the end the asking price is ultimately irrelevant.
Are you suggesting that people on the BBS have a less than perfect opinion of the quality of football players? I am absolutely shocked that somebody would suggest such a thing.
