I'm expecting some fed up bloke making a petition to change the name of Mothercare soon. Some people need to a get a grip.
I wouldn’t have asked them to change it but it always jarred a bit with me. It’s just such a stupid thing to call it. Would you want to take a box of tissues to the till that’s called ‘woman sized’? It’s just a box of tissues, any size is suitable for anyone, surely? I might want to get the larger ones but it looks like there’s something wrong with me if I have to buy ‘man sized’ ones. After all, it’s right there in the name that those ones are intended for men, clearly I should be using little delicate woman ones It’s a bit like the stupid Yorkie ‘not for girls’ thing. I was a girl (as in not a woman) when they started that and I decided I wouldn’t buy they again then if they make and broadcast adverts specifically saying that they don’t want my money. It felt ***** as a kid sitting there and watching them say that over and over.
To be honest I cant get excited by this one either way. - If they were just launching the product no way would they now call them Mansize - But at the time they were launched in the 1950's it was to replace Mens larger handkerchiefs so made sense. I dont see a reason to go back and rename them now but I really dont care if they change it
Wonder how many girls bought em just to stick it to the man. Bit like the eating 3 shredded wheats just to boost sales.
But on average, men are taller and weigh more. I personally see no issue with calling them mansize. I take issue with no changing rooms in men's toilets, dads having to walk around looking for a unisex toilet, ridiculous in my opinion. I see where you are coming from, I wouldn't complain like the lady reporting has
That’s how I feel about things. I always try and think that if something changed today to whatever is causing the latest outcry, would it still seem reasonable? (E.g. the American National Anthem changing to just say ‘sons’ if it had always included both sexes or men suddenly being banned from wearing makeup/skirts etc. if they had worn them daily until now).
I was with someone who would no longer eat Yorkies and whatever other products that manufacturer offered after those adverts. Fair play to her. The company had made it clear they saw her as someone incapable of consuming their stuff so her money went elsewhere.
It’s a bit of a crap description anyway as I’ve got a bit of a button nose but my sisters got a hooter like a clanger.
I think I could have worked out a suitable answer for my 4 year old. And if I wanted a large box of tissues then that's what I would have bought. If they'd been named mens tissues it might have been different. As to Mother care, it stokcs maternity wear , breastfeeding accessories etc so again I think the name reflects what it sells.
Are you suggesting fathers/non-binary caregivers can't pump their breasts or wear maternity dresses? Bigot.
Are the tissues the size of a small man, an average sized man, a large man? No. A stupid false name, can't see why anyone wants to take issue with the people who make them choosing to change the name.
Last season our team trotted out to the stupid false description of "Super Reds". Best alter that quick, just in case it gets taken literally. Seems to me that personkind wants us all to be beige. And boring. Anyway, if we're torching everything that distinguishes the sexes then we should start with the abolition of "Woman's Hour" on the radio - how can such a programme still exist? "Person's Hour".
