to be a Barnsley fan? Just that. Never felt so disappointed and disillusioned by the club. It's getting really hard to care about it.
it will be ok,there are some proper lakers coming through the academy, wait and see, be the super Reds again soon
Yeah the problem with accademy players the 1st sniff from a big club and you dont see them for dust... stones, holgate. Bree stayed for abit but in hindsight even he jumped ship early.
No. A horrible time was when we were in the 4th division & had less than 1500 for the game v swansea.
Did we have a clueless manager, a hopeless CEO and a uncaring/invisible board then too? Or was the football just rubbish?
The football was rubbish because the club didn't have a pot to pee in, the attendances were around 2,500, most of the club's income came from gate receipts, there was no catering to speak of, the toilets were the nearest wall behind the brewery stand, and half the town supported Leeds. We were regular strugglers in the lower reaches of the 4th division and always on the verge of bankruptcy. Occasionally we got a decent player and immediately sold him to keep the club afloat. Anton Otulakowski anyone? Promotion? A pipe dream Wembley? A trans Siberian length pipe dream Being shown on telly? Unimaginable Despite the regular defeats, trials and tribulations, disappointed and depressing trudging home swearing I'd never set foot in that bloody ground EVER again... I had become a Red I've never been sure whether that's a burden or a privilege, probably a bit of both and I really don't care we're getting relegated, it's always been a roller coaster being a Red and whatever league we're in when that line of Red shirts come onto the pitch I still get the same anticipation and adrenaline rush as l did 50 years ago
It was a different world back then , no social media no real communication about anything , you got your info from the Green Un or the Chronicle , CEO ‘ didn’t exist you had a club Secretary but if you had a complaint you’d more than likely be told where to go .
I can't speak of our time in the 60s and 70s, because I wasn't alive for much of it. Football was a completely different thing then and it has certainly evolved, not necessarily for the good. So if you did a comparison of Oakwell today and Oakwell back in those days touched on, it would look that things are just rosy as can be nowadays in comparison. But the OP was about disillusionment and disconnection. Have we ever had such an exodus as we saw in the summer? Have we ever had such a bust boom bust cycle as we've seen in the last 3 seasons? Have we had owners and senior management who seem detached from what many fans feel and express, just through these pages? Much of the disillusion is from off the field matters and stems from not just a belief that senior people don't care, but that they care about what they can get, irrespective of the value they add (or lack of) through their actions, choices and words. We've obviously been worse on the pitch. Though we've run them close at this level this season, we've had worse players, worse coaches/managers. But when you put everything together that has occurred in the last 12 months, it's little wonder there are significant numbers who have had enough or close to reaching that conclusion, even if they'd rather not.
What else was there to take away from it? They sound like they're happy with the current set up. I'm genuinely glad they're ok about it.
It’s a very sad state of affairs currently, and personally I can’t see me setting foot in Oakwell for a good few years now. Not until these owners are gone, & the main aim of the club is to win as much as possible.
Horrible time for those that tried to do something abart it however crazy it may have seemed and was slagged off at every turn on both sides of the equation.
