    I actually played on the Lens FC training pitch in a Youth Competition in the 60's.
    Played FC Blankenberge and a local team USO Lensois.
    Presented us with a bouquet of flowers before we started and then tried to kick us to death.!

    Really impressive Stadium even back then, surprised at how well the locals could speak English.
    Locals very friendly towards us. Remember that some of them were coming up to us with photos of themselves
    taken with British soldiers after they were liberated from the Nazi occupation. The local Mayor held a reception for us
    at the Town Hall the night before we returned home it was a rey't spread.

    Lens itself seemed very industrialised and reminded me a lot of Sheffield ( bit of a tip).He will be very pleasantly surprised at some of the picturesque places in and around Barnsley.

    A warm welcome and hopefully many happy years at Barnsley FC Gauthier.
