But they could not have handled this Suarez affair any worse. Everytime it becomes an issue they just have some form of mind-spaz and find a whole new ridiculous way of dealing with it. All last night the (incredibley annoying) electronic pitch hoarding's kept flashing up 'Lets Kick Racism Out of Football' and then after the game they start defending Suarez all over again. PR disaster.
They're f.cking 'orrible. Never liked 'em since 98 and the Willard game, but these past few weeks are properly showing 'em up. Publically supporting a bloke who admitted racially abusing another player, fans making money chants, shining lasers in players eyes etc. Andy Carroll fits in really well. Expect John Terry to sign next year.
Interesting to watch Rio Ferdinand's interview - he wondered if racism hadn't so much been kicked out of football more that people were aware that to say racist stuff was wrong so they didn't say it - the underlying racism is maybe still there as strong as it always was ? Given the relaxed attitude in some quarters towards Terry & Suarez it's not hard to see where he's coming from. I dunno, there's certainly nowhere near as much racist stuff shouted at matches now as there used to be imho - vividly remember black players getting the monkey chant every game. Liverpool seem in total denial about this - their persecution complex has gone into overdrive.
I've always hated with a passion Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish and the whole Suarez affair comes as no surprise. Scousers I find are mostly out to stiff you, most havent got an honest bone in their body, not fooled by the communal image protrayed, they are racist bigotted robbing thieving scumbags, mostly. I hope they stay in the football wilderness for the rest of their days. One of the only consolations of Man Uniteds dominance is how it has wiped Liverpools legacy out of recognition, and for that reason, long may it continue. long may Hansen and Lawrenson have to endure the ignomity of admitting Liverpool are also rans, fighting for the Europa place, whilst United just continue tot up the League titles. And no doubt the clammer to make Gerrard England captain will begin in some of the scouse biased media, assault on a DJ doesnt count apparently. Mostly that.
Re: I've always hated with a passion Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish Erm, not sure that was the ideal response to a thread criticising prejudice. I suppose you did add mostly!
Prejudice doesnt exist in York then again, you dont get your laptop stolen from you at knifepoint down Knavesmere way.
Re: Prejudice doesnt exist in York It does amuse me how all my York friends think parts of York are really rough when back home they would be lovely areas!
You are right there, I remember in the early 80's stood in the Ponty End. We used to stand directly behind the goal about halfway up, there was always a group to the left of us that would start racist abuse....stuff like "shoot that n***er" etc, and I and my mates would often turn and tell them to shut up only to then get them shouting "n***er lovers" at us. Perhaps it is just a case that people still harbour the same sentiments but realise it's not acceptable to say it....at least that's a step in the right direction.
Absolutely - not a pleasant time - remember the Brewery Stand bouncing to monkey chants etc. Suppose it's part of education that people are actually understanding that racism is wrong - but you quite simply can't legislate for what people may think - which is fine until you try and imagine what it's like being black and being called because of your skin colour by fellow professionals.....that isn't just banter settled with a handshake - Sepp.
I remember one particular game against Sheff Utd, with Deane and Agana up front, the monkey chants seemed to me to be coming from everywhere in the ground. Like you say, not as audible these days, but do those people still have the same thoughts, they just don't vocalise them? Tis a good question.
