I can't remember the last time an attacking player came through the ranks and broke into the first team, especially not one with such an impact. Maybe you have to go as far back even as Andy Liddell. He's slotted in seamlessly, and considering he's such a versatile player, his finishing for the most part is like a striker's. Not only that, but he comes across extremely well in interviews, especially for such a young lad. He seems immensely enthusiastic to be playing for Barnsley, yet also modest and grounded. We've got a real asset in every way. Let's just hope that we can enjoy him for a good few seasons yet, because I fear that the vultures will be circling before long. And while I liked Brad Potts, in my opinion Jacob is by far the better footballer.
Was thinking the same yesterday. He seems to have a real striker's instinct and I think that's where he'll end up playing. He's going to save/make us a lot of money.
Jacob has been excellent for us, really could see him developing into a striker, but with many teams now playing with the one central striker it does him no harm to be playing in a wider role.
Maybe this is why we didn't end up splashing out in Jan? Front three of Woodrow, Brown and Miller next year?
Pinillos is such a classy footballer. His demeanour on the ball reminds me of De Zeeuw in his prime. I just worry if his lack of pace might be exposed in the Championship. Such a pity he suffered those injuries early on in his career, which probably affected his speed.
I'll worry about perceived issues with the Championship if/when we get there. I'm looking no further than Saturday's match against Blackpool. At my age, it's folly to look too far into the future!
I'm absolutely sure we'll do it. Yesterday's performance was as complete as anything we saw from the 2015-16 side, no matter how poor the opposition. I'm confident (though still a bag of nerves and will be until the end of the season, which hopefully will be May 4th!)
Great to see us finally produce an attacking player from our academy instead of a defender for a change. We know how we do business though so don't get too used to him. I reckon if he's not gone this summer he will be by the January transfer window.
Depends what league we're in. Don't think he'll go this summer regardless, but if we're still in League 1 next season, we'll do well to hang on to him after January.
Jury still out as far as I’m concerned regarding Brown. He’s nowhere near as effective as Potts. In saying that he’s still a young player. He’s got speed to burn but as a winger he can’t beat a defender and his delivery into the middle is often poor. He seems to be better suited as an out and out striker. As for the game on Saturday - we were absolutely shocking going forward up to the great pass to Woodrow for his goal. Time and time again the ball was booted up field to no one. After Woodrow scored then it was a stroll.
Brown either loses it /gives it away, or scores or lays it on a plate for someone to score. Passing it about generally in build up play and retaining possession is not what he does. Yet.
Is this for real? Had their defenders on toast yesterday, a la Scunny away early doors. And many many times at home.
