Yes he has a bit of a history for it. A couple of years ago he deliberately quotes bobby sands as a way of demonstrating his points. Another time he deliberately selected a pro ira song as his favourite song. I've no problem with him being Irish, Catholic, or wanting a united Ireland or anything like that but the IRA are a terrorist organisation and he shouldn't be allowed to glorify them
His favourite song is the broad black brimmer "aholster that's been empty manys a day (but not for Long) But when men claim Ireland's Freedom The one should choose to lead them, Will wear the broad black brimmer of the IRA"
It does but when it's deliberately done indiscriminately it surely makes it different? I'll accept a 'freedom fighter' who targets a legitimate target: a government making decisions or the armed forces or opposition factions within. Someone who goes about their business however knowing full well innocent people will get killed is a terrorist.
I've been of this opinion for some time. I think his weasel words about the poppy are a cover for more sinister beliefs and his actions don't go anyway to changing my mind. I didn't chant at him at Oakwell, I wouldn't do that when it affects the club but I thought his actions were reprehensible and beneath contempt.
Sorry Helen. It wasn’t a war. This was about innocent people being killed. Blown up as in the Birmingham and Warrington bombings. By Terrorists. Which was only going to be solved by an agreement. Not the Murder of innocents. I accept people were killed in Northern Ireland eg Bloody Sunday. But the atrocities of the paramilitary groups on both sides did not constitute a war. The British troops were there to try and keep the peace. Something that JM ought to acknowledge.
You're seeing it from an English viewpoint though. I'm just giving the opposite viewpoint. If you were a Catholic then the troops werent seen as peace keeping.
They weren't and I get that but it still doesn't justify bombing innocent civillians in Warrington, Manchester etc...
All the more reason for JM to respect the meaning of Remembrance Day. All the allies including a lot of his countrymen on both sides of the divide. To acknowledge them. If nothing else. I respect any national anthem. Would I turn my back on the national anthem of Germany if played at an event. Obviously not . Be it any ally or foe. Those foes of today should not have to be blamed for the past.
I totally get why he has so much animosity about the "cause". Watch the excellent BBC series "the troubles". The IRA actually made one big mistake: they pissed off the iron lady. We all know around here what that means, say what you like she did what it said on the tin. The IRA cowards who turned up at loughall to shoot two RUC officers in a cold blooded ambush didnt reckon MI6 were one step ahead. Call yourselves soldiers?? SAS waiting for you result 8:0 nil dudes, cue them chickening out big style. You never came back for any more after that you bunch of *******. Oh you actually did, warrington 1993 you killed a 9 year old boy with a bomb in a litter bin. McLean wants to glorify this struggle?? Nothing to be proud of here mate
