Exactly like he did too when he turned his back on Northern Ireland to play for the Republic.

He seems to have a very short memory or raging double standards!

Read what he said can't really see anything wrong with it. If Conor hourhine says same no one would even make a thread on it.

Rice himself was born in Kingston -upon -Thames and therefore by birth, he qualifies to play
for England . His grandparents hail from Cork and so he can legitimately play for the Republic
of Ireland as he has already done. As far as McCleans comments are concerned, he's fully entitled
to an opinion, but it sounds like sour grapes to me.

See nothing wrong with what he's said. Have same thoughts towards Wilfred Zaha and Alex Iwobi.

    1) He did play for Northern Ireland (as my post explains.
    2) He can believe what the f@@k he likes, it still doesn’t remove the fact that he’s Norhern Irish who have their own FIFA and UEFA affiliated football team.
    3) I’m not criticising his decision to play for NI and switch. He was a young lad and it’s a big call to make. However, that very same scenario is one that applies to Rice.

All in all Mclean just sounds bitter and comes across as a contradictory c@@t.

Didn't read the 1st post propley and didn't realise he had played for northern Ireland. although their is probley quite a few players who have represented a diffrent country at youth level, rice represented Ireland at senior level. I just find it odd he represented them at all with his republican views. Strange bloke.

Yeah mate, infact if I remember right his decision is worse than what Declan Rice has done.

I seem to remember he was called up to the senior squad for Northern Ireland, accepted the call up. But once republic came in for him he withdrew from the NI squad to join up with the republic.

So what he’s effectively done is join the bigger nation where he’s got a better chance of playing in major tournaments, so I don’t know how he can criticise Rice when he’s done the exact same if not worse.

There has been many a long thread on him on the Sunderland forum. He was hated by many towards the end of his spell with us due to his pro ira views.

He’ll probably own a bar in Santa Ponsa and despise all the British that end up in his bar whilst taking their money.
