Joins Huddersfield on a three year deal, that must must be a dent in their wage bill, wasn’t he on a massive wage at the piggies.
Two rather uninspiring deals for them In the last few days. Can see nothing but a struggle again for them next season
And they wonder why the club is going backwards. It’s a terrible signing and I’m not really sure how they have fallen into the trap of signing him. Much prefer our policy of recruitment of players on the way up rather than the twilight era of a players career. One last pay day. 2 years time they will be loaning him out to a league 2 club and still paying most of his wages.
I disagree. Pearson will run through walls for them and Rhodes had his best time at his club. He won't be on anything like the same money the massive were paying him and he's a free transfer. I think it's a couple of decent pieces of business.
I don't think Pearson is a bad signing for them at all. He's certainly become a dependable figure for Luton, who finished mid table in the championship this season. Let's not forget that he was a 23ish year old without a championship appearance to his name when we had him. He only featured 17 times for us. Rhodes on the other hand could go either way, but he was always likely to go to a parachute team really.
Owls paid a £10 million transfer fee and over £5 million in wages. At 20 goals that's £750k a goal. Bargain.
Huddersfield still receiving parachute payments and making signings like that. Think Rhodes best days are past him.
Thought their new manager was more in the Bielsa mode and had the success with the Leeds young uns? You'd have thought he'd be harvesting the up and coming youngsters!
I saw this suggested yesterday. Its going to come down to wages. Just because he was on a fortune at Wednesday, it doesn't mean clubs have to match that once he's out of contract, and obviously, there isn't a transfer fee either. It might not be the dreadful signing people think it is. He's still a goalscorer if you can get it to him in the box, but agree, he's likely to be on the wane.
I know a lot of town fans who are not happy at all! They were looking at going down a similar route to us (younger players) with re sale value but they've brought in Pearson and Rhodes. To be fair they may still bring in a number of younger players but will wait and see. I don't think Pearson will be a bad signing for them, he will be solid and dependable. Rhodes on the other hand, free transfer, decent signing on fee and wages, 3 year contract, will he have the motivation or happy just to take the money?
Pearson will run through walls.. but that's it. A poor man's Chris Morgan for me. Playing one level too high for his ability. As for Rhodes, he is not I same player they let go.. Glad Huddersfield have em and not us..
