On their logic every village , Town and City is a shithole . Maybe some hide them better than others but the problems still there.
Have a walk around Shepherds Bush town centre Saturday and see how many people chatting to each other as they are in town ,

The regeneration that's happening in town is brilliant, personally I'm really looking forward to the new library opening tomorrow, but you cannot deny that there is a problem with undesirables. Peel square, mayday green and the bus station are appalling some days and the underpass round the back of the Alhambra can be very intimidating for some folk.

Mate, come to Sheffield. You can't walk outside work (in city centre) to the nearest tram stop without being asked for money on numerous occasions. Barnsley is a breeze.

I'm not saying it's perfect, it's not, and I agree that that needs to be dealt with

But it’s not exclusive to Barnsley though is it ?
If your saying the country’s a shithole for this then that’s different but to single out a Town that’s ploughing millions into a social hub and a Town Centre fit for the next hundred years (hopefully) and singling it out for a country wide problem then that’s just plain wrong and big helping of unjustifiable criticism.

I feel the Peel Square brigade and Bus Station lot are different, in that, unless I'm wrong, most of those hanging around the entrance to the bus station are bored teenagers, where as the Peel Square people appear to be drug related.

I work in Sheffield so i do agree it is worse but with a bigger population comes bigger problems really.

Sheffield is awful though, was surreal walking up from the train station towards the centre and outside the Howard it was packed with people drinking outside. It was only when i got closer i could see they were actually surrounding 3 homeless people asleep in the middle of the crowd outside.

Barmy stuff and shouldn't be happening, just sums up our society at the minute though.

Nope, it's not exclusive, but the OP threw a tantrum stating that Barnsley is essentially devoid of problems. Which is a nonsense and the OP needs correcting.

I honestly think the reason people concentrate on the dossers in town is because less people visit it, so they stand out more.

But let's be fair, even if you take the "undesirables" out of the equation, it's not great anymore, is it? I honestly can't think of a reason to go in anymore. If you want food, there are (at least)3 supermarkets with free parking within touching distance. Clothes? The selection is a joke, and your better off going to Meadowhall or Cortonwood or the like. Even the once great market(of which I worked on from the age of 12, and had my own stall for a god few years) is a joke now(which truly does break my heart). Banking? Maybe, once in a blue moon. Everything else can sourced online. Because of this, the now empty shop caused by lower football/trade and higher rents/rates are filled with charity shops, bookies and Greggs/Pound Bakeries. And unfortunatly, they just attract the often mentioned "undesirables".

I'm praying that the regeneration the council are doing attracts some flagship brands to the town to attract more folk in, which in turn should improve how people see the place and then there will be less of the "Barnsley is a **** hole" comments.

I totally understand that the above comments can be attributed to 95% of towns and cities up and down the country, as this is a much wider issue. But just because "everywhere" has the same issue, doesn't mean it isn't a problem, does it?

No he didn’t , he concentrated on the things that Barnsley are doing well not on a countrywide problem.

You can't start effing and jeffing at folk and barking out positives without people offering a counterpoint. Maybe if the OP was a bit less grrr this thread might have gone differently?

I think what we're being told, is that anything good about the town is unique to the town so we are allowed to talk about it. But anything bad is a widespread problem, so if we highlight them we can **** off. Glad I know the rules now...
