I think there’s plenty of folk in Barnsley can afford to shop there, it’s always been an expensive clothes shop and has lasted a long time up to now. The online and Meadowhall comments I agree with, but that’s why it needed people to be attracted coming into town.
It didn't shut down during or after the strike. Frank Bird's family had it shut down because Ashworth wasn't paying the rent. I know loads of lads who are walking round wearing CP clothing etc bought from there for hundreds of pounds: i'm a sale only man myself.
As an 'outsider' almost now I don't think it's that bad in Barnsley town centre. The changes were needed - was a horrible concrete jungle before - hopefully it will see the footfall increase across the town with more people shopping. Markets always seem lively when I visit on Saturday and it seems to be doing ok. Thing I find strange is the town almost seems to shut down at 4 - nothing open and almost deserted. Liverpool is still buzzing around that time the Big difference being with cities with shops opening a little later. The leisure development - cinema , food places might entice others to stay open a little longer.
Blame the Tories You might be right Me and the Mrs have just been for a couple of pints in evoo across from the town hall, it's really pretty decent up the top end now . Shame about the zombies tho.
People, get a sense of perspective!! If you think Barnsley has issues, then go to Rotherham town centre!! I don't need to say anything else.
Don't think he meant tarn mate. Previous post to his was about meadowhall. But I don't think meadowhall is a shithole either. Proper wum. Don't respond to off the cuff remarks that are drivel.
Barnsley is a great place crammed with great people. A town that is eventually moving forward after spending **** all for years. Deal with the filthy scumbags and were laughing
I was in town today - and couldn't help thinking that it would make a good place to film "The Walking Dead" - you wouldn't have to spend much on make up or costume.
