The history of the word is the issue with ‘Paki’ not the actual word. It’s because the word usually has been used in a negative/racist manner. In its own context, it’s no different to using ‘Brit’ for British or ‘Scot’ for Scottish. And it’s not exclusive to a white male using it - plenty of Indian and Bangladeshi folk say it too. Although to be fair, a few of them do mean it negatively because they’re not usually the biggest fans of each other.
Coming back to the original post for just a second. Having seen Trudeau’s contrition and, more importantly, his political record, it’s seems clear some people just want to make mischief. The comments from the Conservative opposition Leader were insincere nonsense, Judge Trudeau on his actions as PM.
Trudeau’s no foaming racist but those photos aren’t from 1958 - they’re modern. And it’s not one - it’s three separate incidents. The issue here isn’t racism, it’s privilege. He knows it is wrong now and I’m sure he did back then. But he knew that given his stature, class, wealth, and connections he would be unchallenged in blackface. That’s where the real offense lies in this. Think a different drama teacher or student would have gotten away with that? He knew he would. And that’s why this won’t hurt him politically- because anyone who supports him has already accepted that he’s a bit of a douche but that’s ok.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-that-could-bring-down-canadas-justin-trudeau Worth a read . Not too long ago Trudeau got busted for trying to influence his attorney general in a fraud case . She ended up resigning and spilling the beans . Trudeau's just another Obama , talks nice but just another corporate tool . Why folk vote for these tools is beyond me .
It is. I was talking to an old work colleague yesterday. She was telling me a story about her husband. Hes a secondary school teacher. Theres one black kid in the class. His nickname is Token. All the staff have got their knickers in a twist about it being offensive to him. Kid in question gives no ***** and spends all his free time knocking about wi kids whove christened him. Those kids will be overwhemingly mates for most of their lives.
He actually said ‘Middle Aged’, so I assume he thinks you’re all from the Middle Ages. My betting is you’re Charlemagne, and John Peachy is actually Henry II.
He's clearly made some enemies. I don't know enough about Canadian politics to comment further. This thread was just about this particular issue & on the whole there have been some interesting points raised. It was not meant as a defence of Trudeau as a politician per se. I was more wanting to raise the point of ignorance vs avowed racism. Thankfully the UK is largely a more educated place about such issues these days. We had the Diaby song discussion a while ago, that again highlighted things that are racial stereotyping, but I don't feel the initial intent was racist, even though it was right for it to be discouraged by the club for that reason.
I see he's said that he can't remember how many times he's blacked up. He must have done it a lot to come out with that
Possibly no black person gives a flying f*** about what Justin Trudeau did or did not do years ago. So why do white folk get 'offended' by something that they think may be offensive to black folk when in fact it's not offensive at all? Maybe there's a hint of white supremacy from those who want to protect/look after those who are perceived as not strong enough to look after themselves.
In my first job I worked with a (much) older guy who was in a previous career a member of the Black and White minstrels. To him at the time, it was just a job, but that was was later seen to be offensive to a minority. He was also gay, which was also at the time a much insulted minority.
I think it’s a devious stunt to try and undermine Trudeau. If blacking up to look like Aladdin is racist. Then ..... Black girls straightening their hair are racist. Laurence Olivier as Othello was racist. And Michael Jackson was definitely a racist. Nope - all what this is - is another example of PC gone absolutely bonkers !!!
Tha heard !!! Black girls straightening their hair to look more Caucasian. Are they racist? If you say blacking up to look like a Negro is racist then trying to look more white has to be racist. If you are segregating behaviours amongst races then is this racist? Or is it just white westerners wanted to beat themselves up with a big stick at every opportunity? IMO - none of this behaviour is racist. Bring back the Black and White Minstrels - one of the only programs mi grandad loved - lol !!!
