I was a huge fan of Thiam, but his body language last few games tells me he's not happy so he would probably benefit from moving on. I also think Brown, Hedges, Fryers, Pinillos and Adeboyaejo wouldn't cope. Cavare is a big question mark and I'd even put Moore in there... Might be controversial...
I agree. Although plenty of them are on longer contracts than we usually give out so we wouldn't get bent over as much.
Don't think they will all go. Mowatt, Brown, Woodrow are all contracted to 2021. Two or three will probably sold, and another two or three fringe players released
How come Sunderland arent considering their players leaving but we think all our key players will be gone?
Most of it comes down to the length of the contract. Players who’ve got one year left on their deals who want out will be sold I’ve no doubt about that so if my memories correct that could be Lindsay, Thiam, Cavare & McGeehan. As far as I’m aware Moore, Woodrow & Pinnock have two years remaining so unless it’s huge money they shouldn’t be sold. Not sure if Mowatt has 2 or 3 years on his deal but he only signed it this season. What could work in our favour is that he’s done the big club thing & couldn’t get a game at Leeds & by the sounds of it he likes to be living in this area so might do a Hammill & choose to stay here over better offers. Brown also signed a new deal this season & I think he’s got another 2 years on his contract. It’d be pretty irresponsible of his agent to push for a move right now. He’s barely played any competitive football & is still only very young. He should be told to prove himself in the championship & earn himself a really huge deal rather than just a decent one. Been honest I’d expect Pinnock, Lindsay, Cavare, Thiam & McGeehan to leave. Pinnock & Lindsay because the deals will be too good to turn down. Cavare because my suspicion is he’s annoyed he’s been dropped for Williams & has kicked off. Thiam because there was allegedly plenty of interest in January & he’d be coming into his last year & McGeehan because he’s in the last year & every chance he gets he’s back down south so can see him doing a Scowen. I’d expect Mowatt, Woodrow, Brown & Moore to stay. Mowatt & Brown for reasons above & then Woodrow because the balls in our court & he’s still pretty unproven & Moore as other clubs will have doubts about the head injury so won’t be willing to throw big money at us for him.
I think it's imperative we are promoted and keep the spine of this team together. The Burnley game in the cup should be used as the best barometer of how this team could function in the Championship. Now we have rediscovered our mojo and Kieffer Moore is back we look a different team. I'm more confident than I was a couple of weeks ago. I'd prefer automatic but it's out of our hands. However, the play-offs wouldn't scare me like they did before.
Next season they get another sixteen million in parachute payments. They have old men with no resale value like Cattermole and Mcgeady who will see out their contracts instead of taking a pay cut so Sunderland can get them off the wage bill.
That's pretty much verbatim what I said leaving the ground on Friday after seeing the lift the players and crowd received when Moore came on.
My take on this, is that every player regardless of who they are, want to better themselves at their highest level possible. Our management team have made it crystal clear that if offers come in for our players they will leave if the price is right (potts). The players and the management are not fans, most of them are really enjoying their football at oakwell but the chance to earn 3 x more cash is more appealing. Do I like the situation? Hell no......I think our "plan" needs revisiting and tweaking. I'm as gutted as anyone on here. If we go up (I think we will) the plan is at least nieve ...to think we can get lower league players in to replace our current tried and tested batch. This takes time and the required coaching...but mainly time, which you do not have in the championship, as the standard of opposition is so much higher. I do believe keeping our coach is of paramount importance.....and I would defo offer him an extended contract with more money etc etc.......before the vultures start....again.
Let's not forget, many of these players were in the relegation squad, and looked woefully out of their depth in the Championship.
I think "the plan" needs tweaking, to allow for more experienced players to come in to help with development of younger players. But, if players want to leave, and an acceptable bid comes in, they'll be gone. That's the same at any club, even Barcelona.
Yeah exept mowatt- loaned out Pinnock- couldn't get in the side over McDonald then Jackson Mcgeehan- never given a run of games Brown- in the under 23s Cavare- couldn't get in over yiadom Thiam- never had a run of games on wing We played a completely diffrent style of play and chopped and changed the side every week. Maybe stendel is just getting the best out of this squad.
