I've been asked by the publishers of the "Played in Britain" series of books for any old pictures of this game. Described as "Miners Golf" it was played throughout the Barnsley area and I remember the World Championships being held at Barugh Green in the 1970s.

If anyone out there has something like this please get in touch.

My wifes Uncle was UK Champion at Knur and Spell

His name Archey Robinson. Was before 1970, however, I took him to YTV Leeds for an interview in the 70,s when they were researching
the sport. A bit like the game we know better as nipsy. I have no pictures but I am sure his Daughter will have if still living.

    Excellent

Can you contact her to see if she has anything of interest as their at the layout stage with the book and time is important. The book is about lost pub games and follows on from these :-

    I wonder

Could we develop the game in complete isolation for about 50 years & then launch it on an unsuspecting world? That way, for a few years at least, we'd be world champions at something.

We used to play the poor mans version called Peggy... where a peg was shaven with a knife... to the shape of a whistle... it was sat on a full wall brick.. and hit with a hammer handle shape stick this the threw the peg or peggy into the air where you had to hit it as far as you could. the farther you could hit it the more ponts you could score....it was a typical sunday morning game when everyone in the street would play..... ah those were the days..

    Thanks for that.

I was mainly making an appeal for old photographs for a forthcoming book. I think they have all the rules and regulations
