I went on a tour around the Amsterdam Arena when we were in League One. I told one of their employees how much we paid and she thought we were mental. Especially when I told her that didn't include cup games. Still, it doesn't seem to put the lads from Antwerp off.
My season ticket was the equivalent of £150. My ticket for FC Basel vs. Manchester United next week cost me £25. I paid less than £36 for Borussia Dortmund vs. RB Leipzig. English football is mental.
Whether this guy is a genuine European football fan or a Leeds fan, I don't see why the club should refuse them. If they genuinely just want to see the game, I really don't see what the issue is. It's more money for the club after all. That being said, I'm probably biased because I had my first ever away day ruined by a fat mouthy middle aged Wednesday fan who tried to get my dad and an 8 year old me ejected from Hillsborough when she realised we were Barnsley fans.... And Paolo Di Canio.
I understand how it works , its just with our match kicking off early , it would be possible to attend two games in the same day & I would personally not let the price for a one off stop me. This is not me having a pop at the lad , just an opinion
To me it's simple. Each club should be able to charge what they like, with different prices in different parts of the ground if they want. We should be able to charge L***s fans £50 and our own fans £20, if we want. It would then be up to them if they were daft enough to pay it or not. The main source of the problem is the league rules which compel clubs to rip off their own fans because they're trying to cash in on the away fans. Change that rule and see what happens.
I dont agree with you there - I prefer the cap approach used by the premiership its absolutely barmy that the most an away fan can be charged at a prem game is £30 but the sky is the limit for Football league games I'd like to see a cap of £25 on Championship games and £20 for L1 and L2 though as an interim step £30 would be a good start
The problem with capping ticket prices, particularly the lower down the football pyramid you go, is that some teams are still heavily reliant on gate receipts. Capping teams such as Crawley and Fleetwood for example to £20 could effectively kill of their clubs. I certainly think teams in the Championship or the Premier League could have a cap on ticket prices. That being said, I'd like Barnsley to break the trend. I'd like us to get ahead of the game and make all areas in the ground £20 to both sets of supporters, publicise the hell out of it to both home and visiting fans, and then at least we're attracting more visiting supporters. I reckon we'd be looking at regular 16,000+ gates then. The opportunity is there for one team to set the standard; football fans of every club are dying for someone to do it. Make it us. Had the Norwich game been £20 for example tomorrow, I'd have made every effort to be there.
It's way too much money for a game of football, but with the Euro rate as it is, it shouldn't be that hard to stomach if you're wanting a one-off trip to England. The Leeds matches are usually great occasions
Id have definitely given it some serious consideration - Reading is only costing me £20 which is a real boost - though I would have gone anyway as long as the price wasnt silly as its my nearest game
Why does it make me backwards? Just because they are Europeans it doesn't stop them being Leeds fans does it you tit.
