Looking at the Ipswich game and last night both first halves the opposition right sided players seemed to have the freedom of Oakwell. Is Pearson playing left back or left wing back. He seemed gone after 20 minutes in both games. Thoughts???

He's made a big step up and is playing out of position due to the Yiadom situation and Fryers' injury. Not ideal, but Hedges helps out - last night I thought our midfield didn't give much help to the back 4 - young Williams was doing a massive task to help tho.

A fair assessment, in my opinion.

Wouldn't say he was playing out of position. He stated in the post match interview yesterday that he has played most of his games at left back and he's comfortable there. However, agree about the massive step up - will only get better. And he also offers an aerial threat going forward - as we saw yesterday.

Hedges hasn't given him the best of support. He got better at it, towards the end of the game last night, but he's got plenty of work to do defensively.

Is it just me that thinks if/when Yids goes we should get another natural left footed full back instead of Cavare? I know Cavare is available on a free and by the sounds of it played a blinder against us in the pre-season game but would it not be better to sign a second natural left footed full back instead of another right footed one that 'could' fill in at left back

Thoughts are you should be looking at the other full back for last night's goal, basic goal side defending

From my Accrington mate Pearson's best position is holding midfielder.
If Yids stays then he may be groomed to cover that position as well as as full back.
I assume Williams has been loaned with a view to him playing most games though.

Matty Pearson had very little support at times on the left side. Couldn't commit too much as no one was covering. Where's as McCarty and Hammill were dovetailing and supporting each other nicely. Fairly sure they'll improve on the left hand side as well the more they play together and acclimatise to the standard of opposition and pace of the game at championship level.

Really good signs though. Pearson can also play centre mid & right back according to Accrington fans. So sounds like Bobby Hassells successor! Young lad will improve under Hecky and co.

Both our full backs last night were pushing in too far. our defence at times were all over the place.
