There's been no indication that the change in ownership will result in us splashing big cash. I suspect we'll still be fishing in the same waters, with the same overall strategy. There might be scope to loan players from Nice and they may get first dibs on any rough diamonds we polish up. But we won't be shattering transfer records come January. Loving the names being suggested as potential new signings, but miles off in my opinion. Still at least we can concentrate on the football now.
I agree. To me, the only difference will be a revised wages structure enabling us to hold onto, and recruit players.
*gets popcorn ready for when Nice buy our rough diamond for less than most think he's worth and people say the words 'feeder club'.* Let's hope not eh.
I bet we don't sell a single player to Nice. Pure speculation that it will be like Watford, l speculate it won't be. The French league is *****, the only money in that is for the Champions league places, and the Premiership is worth 4 times that. If we get to the Prem they will make more money off us than Nice.
I've been quite surprised to be honest with how 'non-Wednesday' the BBS has been. I think we all understand that new ownership doesn't necessarily mean a change in tact, nor does it guarantee our future in the Championship. I do however feel that over time, it will transition us from being a bottom 6 team, to being consistent top half performers again, similar to the glory days of the 80's and 90's.
I imagine you're right. I don't see much changing, they've bought us cos they like what we're doing. Why would they change that? Maybe they'll recalibrate but not much else.
Yep, he needs to use Birmingham and Sunderland as examples of what not to do with his brass. I'm a big believer in the strategy the club has taken since being relegated last time around, it sets us apart and and I often take the moral high ground whilst arguing with my mates that support different local sides. The obvious difference I hope will be that we can keep players in the scowen, Roberts and Watkins scenario as I believe we shouldn't be paying the kind of brass that may have kept winnall and Conor.
Jordan Rhodes and Stephen Fletcher anyone ? Remember how Wednesday were going to tear up the league with those two.
Totally agree with you. It's all a laugh when names are mentioned that are obviously never gonna come but expectations still need to be the same. Sheff United have been mentioned of how over excited they got and how cringey their fans were when that Saudi confirmed he was having something to do with them.
Looking at the current Fair Play rules you are "only" allowed £13M losses per season averaged out over the previous 3 seasons if the owner injects cash and £5 million if he/she doesn't, this will be assessed in march 2018 for the previous 3 seasons. There are some exclusions like youth development and ground development - which I sure can be stretched to include a multitude of sins. It leaves a lot of questions - do the fees received for sales get spread over 3 seasons? As they do for buying players. Is it a rolling 3 years from now on or will they only look again at the end of the 2020/21 season for the previous 3 seasons? not sure. So a lot rests on where the transfer money from the sale of our players last season is, if its with the club as profit we can probably spend the lot, re-direct the million a year from the academy and any ground costs and spend an extra £40 million over 3 years. I think that is the theoretical maximum before we fell foul of the FFP rules.
