It's disgusting that an ancient man had to hawk himself around his garden in order to help mend the NHS's finances. Remember this, and vote the Tories out when you're next able to do so. And as well-meaning as he is, he is a distraction from the shítshow the Coronaservatives have made of, well, everything from the virus to A-Level results. Do not focus on him - focus on them, and get them out.
Sadly until the Brexit or bust voters wake up to the fact they've been played like cheap fiddles and that Brexit or bust is actually Brexit and bust very bust the tories will hold sway with their divide to conquer mantra in full swing with everybody but them being blamed for the **** storm just about to hit this country by their buddies in the right wing press.
The money was raised to aid the NHS. The Govt gave away a larger amount in dodgy contracts to their dodgy mates for equipment that isn’t fit for purpose.
""The extraordinary fundraising achievement of Capt Tom Moore - now Sir Tom Moore - has been well documented. But what has the money he raised been spent on? The £32.8m raised by centenarian Sir Tom was in aid of the health service's charitable wing, NHS Charities Together. It is part of an overall £116m collected for the fund as part of its Covid-19 Urgent Appeal. Some £20m has been spent so far. Despite publicity given to shortages of protective clothing for staff, and the need for medical apparatus, these are classed as "core" equipment and funded by tax payers. The focus of Charities Together is the comfort and wellbeing of staff and patients - things that, in the words of one NHS worker, "make their working lives easier"" So I am not sure where you get your assertion that the "Tories wasted the money". You can bash the Tories as much as you like, but to perpetuate a basic lie just shatters one's credibility.
sadly thats so true. I think I will start a thread on Macramé and crochet work.... But it will still be turned around into a politcal thread.
It's because it quite rightly exposes this god awful government & it's failures, lets not sweep the fact under the carpet.
Indeed. The only reason anyone has ever heard of Captain Tom is because he felt the need to step up due to the Tories' incompetence. A decent government would have meant he could have sat in his chair for the rest of his days. Everything is political, anyway, but some would rather we just go: "bUt WoT aBoWt CoRbIn?" and leave it at that.
