The seeds of the turn round could probably be traced back to the preceding league game at Coventry when we rallied from a truly pathetic and abysmal (and bloomin' cold) first half 2-0 deficit to 'win' the second half 3-2 playing good attacking football. He started the game with one of his whacky formations (a lop-sided 5-3-2 as I recall given Ryan Kent the freedom of Coventry) and I understand that when he tried to go even more bizarre at half-time the players told him to basically **** off, let them play 4-4-2 and just play football simply.

There was also a crisis meeting on the morning of the Altrincham game between Cryne, Johnson and Mansford where decisions about obtaining Hamill and others were taken. This was what probably saved him after the game - tempting as it must have been to fire him after that they'd already agreed the need for re-inforcements.

We then had a further two disappointing performances, nearly going out of the JPT with a dismal performance at home to York, rescued by some magic from Adam on his comeback and a toothless defeat at home to Port Vale. It wasn't until the away game with Oldham that we started to improve - no coincidence in that this was Kevin Long and Aidy White's first games and Marley Watkins returned.

For me the Oldham game was the first big turning point and the second was the 90th minute equaliser from Conor at home to Sheff Blunts two games later. We'd lost at Peterborough in between and so another defeat would have stalled all momentum. We hadn't played well against the Blunts and so that late goal felt like a winner.

We then had some decent results around the Christmas and New Year period but were still shipping goals with the likes of his favourites, Wabara and Nyatanga still featuring heavily.

It wasn't until Shrewsbury away in mid-January that the 'classic' line-up arose, following the arrivals of Brownhill and Fletcher. Johnson only managed four league games with that team.

Blimey. I’d forgot all about Reece Wabara. He was our 4th best right back that season & ended up in the league one team of the season!

Lets be honest here all the talk was brownhill go to.a top club he went to Bristol city the second biggest football club in a rugby city

We brought him to cover for the injured scowern who.was a much better player
