Thanks to all involved. I thought Hecky came across as honest and sincere and answered the questions as openly as possible without completely betraying the trust of his former employers. Obviously still a big Reds fan and his answers tonight didn't burn his bridges. COYR
I thought it was good. Well done to all concerned. Slight criticism re technical issues around not being able to hear the interviewer clearly whereas Hecky's responses were generally quite audible.
Just watched it back and we had about three questions in the middle that were giving an echo. Think we fixed it for the second half by lowering the laptop volume on both sides. I could hear it when asking the questions
That was a brilliant watch, really enjoyed it. One thing though, Kenton and Francis over Sir Bobby at..right back?....come on Hecky lad!
I thought quite a bit of it was upsetting. When he knew they had a great chance to get to the Premeir - and it was pulled from under him due to bad planning. Us fans witnessed a desperate desperate time at the club during that time. Horrible. A time that I will never forget. We had a manager that loves Barnsley and a team that could steamroller any team in the league at that time. All of it gone in a January 2017 transfer window.
I said that but as my daughter said to me it was obvious what the question was by Hecky's answer. He spoke very clearly .
I never bought into that ‘he jumped ship for dirty Leeds, the scumbag’ theory. I think he just felt the club was becoming difficult to work for, so moved on for work reasons. I don’t think his love of the club, as a supporter, can ever be questioned, just his views on the club as an employer. For example. Many on here are not big fans of our current owners, begrudge parting with cash (referring to the many season ticket renewal threads) so certainly would not wish to be employed by them. But that would not stop anyone supporting the club, just not supporting the owners. For me, Hecky is still very much one of our own. It just became difficult to be employed by the club he loved when they took his best tools (players) off him, so moved on for work reasons but without switching his loyalty.
It did seem strange though that he said it could have been any club, he just wanted out.... then at the end talking about future plans, he said he wasn’t the type of person just to jump into any job, he had to want it. Or maybe that’s because of his payout from dirty Leeds?
He also said that his head probably wasn’t in the right place to be going and having interviews with another club that particular week as he was going to say yes to anything. I’m sure he hinted later on that he’s learnt to be more thought out in his decision making going forward, hence it being important he likes who he works for rather than just wanting to be a manager
I don’t disagree. But managing a football club is just a job. It’s your work. I would work for Sheffield Wednesday, even wear the ‘uniform’ if they gave me better working conditions (and I am sure money would come into the equation too). But that would still only make them my employer. I would still be a supporter of Barnsley.
Are you saying that anyone on here who said Hecky had jumped ship for Leeds is a SCUMBAG !?!?! I couldn’t possibly comment on that accusation. BTW - if you are saying that - then you can put the brilliant investigative talents of BBC RADIO SHEFFIELD football journalists into that category. They absolutely revelled in Hecky moving from Barnsley to Leeds - they loved it - constantly reminding everybody that Hecky had gone on to better things. When all along (as he said) he would have jumped ship for even a club like Mansfield. So from this recent interview - questions remain that sadly we didn’t get answers for - why and how was Hecky put into this position? My theory is that from the start the owners didn’t want Hecky - but they couldn’t jump straight in with size 13s and sack him because he was a fan’s favourite and one of our own. The owners wanted a European manager that could attract European footballers. So Ganaye was set the task of forcing Hecky out. Ganaye did an excellent job of doing this. But in my view - the owners got rid of the best manager, who played the most dynamic football, that we have ever seen at Oakwell during my lifetime. So it has to be said that pushing Hecky out is a huge blemish on the current performance of these owners. The jury is still out regarding Struber - fingers crossed he will become as good or even better than Hecky. I doubt it.
Im doing the best I can to support these owners - which I have to say is against a tide of disbelievers on here. IMO - Eventually they will get it right. BUT - they made a huge mistake in pushing Hecky out. I’ve always said ...... Hecky + (a bit of) Money = Premeir League If the owners had backed Hecky instead of undermining him we definitely wouldn’t be anywhere near the position we find ourselves right now. One last point ...... I cannot believe anyone on here or at BBC Radio Sheffield couldn’t see that Hecky had been pushed out at Barnsley. I was saying at the time leading up to Hecky leaving - listen to Heckys interviews on the radio. It was clearly obvious in what he was saying that either Ganaye was terrible at doing the CEO job - OR - Ganaye was manoeuvring to push Hecky out. One comment in particular stands out on BBC Radio Sheffield when Hecky says - the person (Ganaye) who is responsible for recruitment needs to get a move on because we are short in a few departments. That comment on its own got my alarm bells ringing. 1) Why wasn’t Hecky involved in recruitment !?!?! 2) Why is the person (Ganaye) not allowing Hecky to be involved in recruitment !?!?! 3) Why is Ganaye dragging his feet with regard to recruitment !?!?! And then Ganaye had the gaul to say after Hecky had left the club that the club was disappointed in Hecky. No wonder Hecky riled up as he did against this unworthy comment. Remember this - it took a long time to impose the appointment of Ganaye onto the then owner of the club. The ownership was being transferred at that time. Ganaye wasn’t recruited because he was a nice jolly fella (as some on here seem to believe he is).
