    New variants will appear all the time for years to come. So if them appearing means we can't release restrictions we are permanently locked down and normal life won't come back.

    That would be my understanding of new variants, so if that is the case I don't see how we can ever go back to normal. Or if we do we are always going to be on the edge waiting for next lockdown to come.
