Are already in a real strong position to win their first top flight title in god knows how long unless they implode at some point. I know it's still early in the season but city are struggling a bit at present. Doesn't help that they have lost their best defender Laporte to a long term injury, Otamendi and Stones not good enough IMO although didn't stones pick up an injury the other week? Can't do with Liverpool winning it tbh, we would never hear the bloody end of it!!
I know it's early, but I really can't see them dropping 8 points between now and the end of the season. I bet if they increase that lead any time, some bookies will pay out.
In previous seasons I would have agreed with you but they look real strong this season and seem to have all bases covered.
It’s only 4 draws if City win. Sure it happened last year before City went on record run. Like us will all depend on what happens between now and Jan for me.
First time that Pep has been beaten at home to nill in his time there. Coupled with other strugglers like Man United and Spurs and teams like Burnley doing good, it's an enjoyable unpredictable season so far. Sheffield United are even showing us how to fight and win games despite being written off after a promotion.
It looks like the powers that be have decided its liverspool turn. Really rubs it in with scumchester doing so bad
I was listening to 606 on my way back over the Pennines yesterday. A Man City fan called in and said City would win the league and get a record points total. Also said Liverpool would bottle it because they always do. Wonder if he's phoned in again tonight.
Stones is injured. The Stones / Otamendi thing where all the press were trying to make out they can’t play together doesn’t even make sense anyway as they were the most common partnership when they broke 100 points. I think Rodri will be a perfectly good signing in time but I do think Fernandinho’s a far better option as the holding midfielder, the full backs are an issue as well as Stones & Laporte been missing The only thing that will stop Liverpool in my opinion is injuries to either the front 3 or full backs. They’ve got depth in midfield & centre backs but don’t have the squad City have. I really hope they do win it as I’m sick of all the idiots talking as if football was invented in 92 & that they’ve never won the league.
Most of them in Liverpool are pretty much down to earth about the league and their chances - seems long distance fans are the worst. The ones you hear on phone in shows
The ‘Liverpool will bottle it cos they always do’ is such a lazy argument’. In my lifetime (I’m 27) they’ve bottled it once, under Rogers. If they’re calling last season a bottle job when they got 97 points and won their last 10 or so games they don’t know what they’re talking about. Not saying they’re definitely going to win it cos I’d never write Man City off, but there’s no evidence at all to suggest they’ll bottle it.
You’re right it’s ridiculous that. I think they supposedly ‘bottled it’ whilst drawing with Everton & Man Utd & then losing narrowly against City (with the Stones clearance off the line been the difference). Hardly terrible results, just a coincidence that three of their toughest games came back to back. And like you say went on a long run of wins at the end of the season & turned around that tie against Barca so definitely not bottlers
You think they'll finish the season with 106 points? Long way to go yet, if Liverpool were to lose VVD or Mane for any length of time, then those 8 points could be dropped quickly. Also, while they've not started as well as they'd want, City are capable of putting together a winning run of 15+ games which will put Liverpool under pressure again.
