Saw 5p of it outside Lidl on Friday but couldn’t be bothered to bend down and pick it up , mind with my back and knees I wouldn’t have been able to straighten back up if I had . Don’t know where other £19:95p were.
Yes I found it. I handed it into the barman in the Thornely Arms in Dodworth. He was so impressed with my honesty that he gave me several free pints of Ringwood.
I seem to remember an incident in the Thornely when we were having a bit of a BBS do a few years ago. You kindly went to the bar for me, as I was somewhat stuck amongst a few of us and couldn't get out (mainly the fault of Another Bubble!). I gave you enough money for a round, which you kindly brought back. When you gave me my change, it was obvious that there was far too much money, so I refused to accept it. Again, you were kind enough to take the money back and ask the landlord to check it. He did and you returned with the correct change. I received quite a bit of stick from some of the group, but there was no way I could knowingly accept the cash. It was wrong and the additional money wasn't mine, so I didn't want it.
a similar thing happened to me in Moscow some years ago. Bought one of those wooden dolls with dolls inside - any way lady selling it gave me more as change than I'd paid her. ( I though if her monies were wrong she'd be whisked off to a Gulag in deepest Siberia.) so I gave her the money back. She panicked and thought I was trying to 'procure' her (is that the right word?) - and she disappeared into the back of the shop and I kept the money. (Don't suppose that would happen in the Thornely??)
I may be able to help - need guarantee that the proceeds will be split 50/50 - I have the name of the supermarket - exact spot it was found - and time.
In my opinion, I think the folk of Dodworth have higher standards than those who take part in such an act.
'was' - is this past tense? recently at Dodworth Library - a large volume about Dodworth's local history there - wonder if you've seen it?
Being born & bred in the village and lived here all my life, I haven't heard the term used as regularly as I did when I was younger. As for the books based upon Dodworth's history, I've owned them for quite a few years. An old friend of mine, Peter Hamby, played a big part in writing & researching them.
