Only read a few posts because their forum layout annoys me but I’ve been thinking about the point they made (about no league 1 being played next year if no fans are allowed) and that’s my biggest concern really. Surely we can’t just be left to not play and be in danger of potentially losing our club?

Yes, the "27 club Championship" idea was an interesting one. Not something I'd previously considered. Not sure how much chance there is though. Now, if we were Leeds it might be a different story.

yep it’s very worrying and could see how it would send us under.

I’ve also not really considered that but if league 1 teams can’t afford to play with no fans, not sure where that would leave us.

If we do go down and can play next season then fair enough, we deserve that. But I don’t want to see our club “sat” for months on end.

Lots of ifs and buts right now.

I’d say there’s not many teams that could survive a full season not playing so something will need to be worked out. Unless of course, the premier league decides to finally help out.

I have just read an article that suggests an EFL start date including league 1 and 2 of either 29th August or 12th September. 5th September is reserved for an international break apparently hence the gap between the dates.

The article also mentioned that discussions are ongoing with the government regarding fans being allowed in on a reduced capacity basis from day 1. If that is possible then that will hopefully help alleviate some of the fears of league 1 and 2 clubs regarding no match day revenue.

Lol at the idiot thinking we would have been terrified with a crowd allowed.

I know, I know. It’s not called the “greed league” for nothing.

I think the long-term future for the Football League will be four leagues of 20 or something.

I imagine a restructure over the next couple of seasons as clubs fall by the wayside. I think League One will likely be played - or perhaps I am typing more in hope than expectation - but I feel that lower than League One stands a very good chance of not starting until the whole social-distancing thing comes to an end. Perhaps just one game against each team, instead of home-and-away?

Matt Hancock today we asked by Labour about looking into face coverings whenever you're not in your house and he said it's something they will look in to more. Imagine thousands of us at Oakwell with our mouths covered it won't make for great chants :D

Hopefully fans will be allowed back in some capacity soon. Cinemas are now allowed to open and other measures are being reduced all the time.
It's going to be very hard to manage a football crowd, I would expect limited crowds to start with and no away fans.

would think that the e'effin'l didn't have a clue on how to end this season and relied on input from clubs on an individual case based on their division, not their fault during these times i guess
but if they don't start 20/21 with every single club on an even keel then they may as well jack it in and start the premier league 2 and let the rest of us rot watching pub football

I’d have thought the bigger concern for L1 is if we can afford to play but half of them can’t.

The away fans thing is interesting to me.

England and Germany have very strong away-fan cultures. The rest of Europe perhaps not so much.

Personally-speaking, I am a fairly solid away-match attendee. There is something which feels hardcore about spending all day going to, watching, and coming back from, an away match at, say, Plymouth or the like.

However, I also have a life, with hopes and dreams and things I want to do and achieve. Obviously, I have not been to an away match in months. I wonder if the virus might make a few people reassess their priorities? Yeah, I love it. But, still, a long-distance match takes up half a precious weekend, and then I'll spend much of the following day in bed catching up on the sleep I missed.

Maybe I am just getting old and (even more) miserable. But I do wonder if I'll be as enthusiastic about aways in the future.

Which is why if away fans aren't allowed and reduced capacity is the norm for a while, then the bigger games a club has in the season should wait until they can be played without restrictions so clubs don't suffer more by not being able to cash in on their big earning fixtures.

I'm a fan of this idea. Only problem I can see with it is the police. If our last four games of the season would be wednesday and Leeds home and away, they'd be in a right tizzy about the safety/overtime requirements.

Don’t think we will be playing Wednesday and Leeds next season.
