My word , over the years we would have well in the mire without them & as a human being they may be no different than any other but when you put your life on the line as they do , well they are a bit special in my eyes

Sorry, I should have said in current times. I do not wish to take anything away from those that fought in times when they were volunteering/conscripted.

He intended to remain as MP before the election.

It’s only in the last few days that Labour have now ruled that you can’t have 2 full time elected posts.

Why wasn’t this established before the names were put forward.

So unless Dan Jarvis pulls out of the mayor election. Corbyn will have managed to get another sensible Labour MP deselected. Someone who not long back was tipped to be a contender for head of the Labour Party. Convenient that!

Barnsley will probably end up with one of his left wing momentum comrades as our MP.

Because those making the accusations (May, Johnson, etc) are known for their unequivocal telling of the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth. If it was Novichok, which is "of a type developed by Russia", then the Americans failed to destroy all samples when they decommissioned the facility in Uzbekistan where it was made.

On the other side, you also have the Russians, who are playing to their own crowd and are also not exactly known for their truthfulness in these matters either.

Personally, I'd have thought it was obvious and, in fact, that it's disrespectful to assume that you could treat it as a part time job on the side. I don't think any other metro mayor does the job alongside another full time role - how could you give them both your full attention?

The OPCW can only destroy what’s been declared.

Worth noting that the other candidate (Ben Curran) started out as a Lib Dem councillor in Sheffield and then switched to Labour after he’d been elected.

Not sure whether that’s admirable or not!

He’s actually a nice bloke I had lots of discussion with him when I used to do Union repping when I worked for the council. He just realised that he had made the wrong political choice and he hated Scriven (as any right minded person would).

As it is meant to be a temporary position I would prefer it to be dealt with as Jarvis would. My fear is the other candidate is not a pro all Yorkshire.

As opposed to the UK, USA and Israel that are actively researching in this area - to develop an antidote obviously...

He was selected by the local labour party thats how he had the opportunity to become the MP. Dan Jarvis may well have been right with his comment because listening to people there appeared to be strong support from the general public leading up to the vote. Personally I would expect him to vote according to his conscience after all whilst he might represent me he wouldn't know how I personally felt about this issue.

Not so sure on the support for war against Syria.
I get that about him being nominated by Local labourites, Still dont get why all the blairite career politicians from down South or from outside the area, are brought up here to stand as MP's. eg in Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley etc. Can't be any Local Northern MPs thesedays..?

Corbyn ‘personally’ doesn’t have to get his hands dirty.

No. Then again, the democratic will of Labour Party members is to select alternative candidates. It makes a change from the "right' candidate (Jarvis, Dugher, Flint etc etc) being parachuted in.

I'd vote to get shut of my MP in a heart beat if i had the chance.

The Aldi analogy isn't really an accurate one as their management roles tend to pay well above the norm in retail and over double the national average salary. However at £60k for a Major in the Army, thats on par with an Aldi store manager, not peanuts in either case, but probably not equal roles.
