I've thought for a while that Momentum could do a lot better by just joining the Tories en masse and taking over the party from the inside...
It seems to me that Barnsley would do better in a 'One Yorkshire' scenario. Looking at how the HS2 route was influenced, it's hard not to think that someone like Curran would not make a SCR more Sheffield-centric. Rotherham already being swallowed up - Barnsley and Doncaster next!
Commissioned officer pay currently starts at C.£2800 per month. I'd rather work in Aldi for that money.
When Corbyn came to the NUM, he was nowhere to be seen along with the other local MP's. That says it all really about them.
So you are happy he can do both jobs at once with the same time allocated to them? I'm not. It just shows his greed...
How do you justify that then? "I would of course draw the clearest lines between legislative responsibilities as an MP with those as an executive of the Sheffield City Region. Let me be crystal clear: I won’t take any mayoral salary. I will also ensure an evidence based approach to policy and public scrutiny and accountability will enable me to carry out both roles in the same way that many MPs serve in a variety of appointments, as government or shadow ministers or chairs of committees." All I can say is that no other metro mayor considers it to be a voluntary post that can be done in their spare time. Maybe he's just a particularly hard worker.
It depends how many people vote in the actual election I guess but I’m no fan of the idea of mayors. Seems a backwards step.
And how is he going to hold two electorial posts when the Labour party have made that illegal or impossible ?
Apart from the fact that he states he will do it gratis, can I also take it that you wouldn't accept him being a minister if Labour get elected, cos that must be like having 2 jobs?
If he gets the Mayoral Post and has to stand down as a Labour MP would you vote for him if he stood as an Independent? I would.
